About this opportunity
Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, procuring through Fermi Forward Discovery Group, LLC on behalf of the Department of Energy, seeks one portable phased array ultrasonic flaw detector for nondestructive testing of welds, with proposals due September 21, 2026 at 5:00 PM CST. This is a firm-fixed-price procurement with no set-aside, to be awarded without discussions to the lowest-priced technically acceptable offeror.
Place of performance is Fermilab's Receiving Warehouse 2, Kirk Road and Wilson Street, Batavia, Illinois 60510. The equipment will perform NDT inspection of 6000s aluminum alloy TIG welds on Long Baseline Neutrino Facility horn inner conductor components with wall thickness of 0.2 inches and outer diameters from 3.379 to 21.799 inches. The detector must identify voids as small as 0.005 inches in aluminum stock ranging from 0.1 to 0.375 inches thick, qualifying to NAS 1514 radiographic standards with a 0.03-inch void size limit.
The unit must feature a 64:128 pulser/receiver architecture (64 independently controllable transmit channels, 128 independently controllable receive channels) and support phased array ultrasonics, single ultrasonic beam, time-of-flight diffraction, total focusing method, phase coherence imaging, full matrix capture, and plane wave imaging. It must operate on field-replaceable batteries and continuous external AC power (120V, 60 Hz), include onboard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, provide built-in display, 500 GB minimum storage, USB 3.1, HDMI, SDHC, and Ethernet connectivity, and inspect materials to 100 mm thickness. The manufacturer must provide software updates, technical support, and repair/replacement support through January 1, 2032, or demonstrate equivalent five-year support for its immediately preceding generation. All freight charges are included in the quotation. NAICS code is 541380, Testing Laboratories and Services. Contracting questions go to Patrick Tarpey at ptarpey@fnal.gov or 630-840-3640.
