About this opportunity
The Department of the Air Force Space Command's 30th Contracting Squadron is conducting market research through this Request for Information (RFI) to identify potential contractors capable of providing mobile crane support for Minotaur IV rocket operations at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California. The requirement involves specialized crane services for offloading and reloading rocket equipment, specifically requiring two mobile cranes capable of performing tandem lifts of 136,000 pounds during critical mission operations scheduled for August 2025 and December 2025/January 2026. Contractors must demonstrate expertise in crane operations involving explosive payloads and provide two certified crane operators and two certified riggers along with the equipment. The procurement falls under NAICS code 238990 "All Other Specialty Trade Contractors" with a size standard of $19 million, and interested vendors must comply with federal, state, Air Force, local, and county regulations. Responses to this market research are due by July 9, 2025, and interested parties should contact Paul Baraldi at paul.baraldi@spaceforce.mil with their firm information, CAGE code, small business status, and capability details.
This opportunity does not include any set-aside designations, though the government is encouraging small business participation and requests information about joint venturing or partnering arrangements to assess the viability of a potential small business set-aside in future procurement actions. No incumbent contractors or current service providers are mentioned in the documentation, and no specific contract values or budget ranges are disclosed at this market research stage. The mission timeline spans two distinct operational periods with the first phase occurring in August 2025 and the second phase taking place in December 2025 through January 2026. The government will provide supporting equipment including three Type II trailers, toe fitting adapters, slings, and shackles, along with facility access, security, electricity, and emergency medical services. Vendors must submit mobile crane specifications and obtain range safety approval for their lift plans as part of the operational requirements. The specialized nature of this requirement involves handling rocket components for the Space Cowboys (2 SLS/DOC) unit's Minotaur IV mission operations.
