About this opportunity
The Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) is soliciting feedback through a Request for Information to inform potential future Lupus Research Program (LRP) focus areas and research funding opportunities, with responses due by November 16, 2026. FY27 appropriations for the LRP have not been enacted; this RFI is for planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation or binding obligation.
CDMRP seeks input from academia, industry, community and non-profit organizations, scientific and professional organizations, federal agencies, and the general public. Respondents should identify critical gaps and rank research priorities across seven focus areas: disease heterogeneity, biological mechanisms, end organ injury pathobiology, quality of life improvements, genetic and epigenetic components, innovative health care delivery models, and mental health interventions. The survey requests rankings of research areas by impact potential and asks respondents to select the top two research stages or types—ranging from early ideas and preclinical research through clinical trials and team science—that would yield the greatest impact.
The LRP's mission is to fund research to understand, prevent, and diagnose lupus and improve treatments and quality of life for patients, including Service Members, their families, Veterans, and the general public. Appropriations for the LRP from FY17–24 and FY26 totaled $75 million. Responses must be submitted through SurveyMonkey; the government disclaims the ability to protect proprietary or sensitive information submitted through the platform. No responses will be returned to submitters, and no commitments will result from this feedback collection.
