About this opportunity
The National Institutes of Health, Clinical Center, Department of Perioperative Medicine is conducting a sole-source repair and exchange of Intuitive Surgical DaVinci XI Scopes, with a response deadline of September 26, 2026. The department operates under a justification for other than full and open competition (JOFOC) because Intuitive Surgical is the sole authorized service provider for the proprietary DaVinci XI instrumentation; using non-authorized repair services voids the Preventative Maintenance Agreement warranty. The scopes are mission-critical for the Urologic Oncology Branch, which averages seven robotic surgical cases weekly and performs laparoscopic prostate and nephrectomy procedures on the DaVinci XI platform. The broken scopes currently prevent surgical operations. Intuitive maintains a fixed repair rate regardless of outcome, and market research confirmed no alternative vendors supply or exchange DaVinci XI scopes. The proposed contractor is SDV, located in Fletcher, North Carolina. The acquisition is structured as a one-time, firm-fixed-price repair exchange with new scopes sent in anticipation of return of the broken units. Contact: Hiromi Konishi, Administrative Officer, 301-496-5646, Konishi.hiromi@nih.gov.
Notice text
NIH, CC, DPM is requesting the repair/replace of Intuitive Surgical DaVinci XI Scopes. This repair exchange is needed as the scopes are currently broken. The department averages 7 robotic cases a week and it takes 12 hours to turn over the scopes due to the time it takes for the scopes to dry. The scopes provide Urology surgeons the ability to perform Laparoscopic Prostate and Nephrectomy surgery on patients using the DaVinci XI Robot. Without repairing these scopes, the surgeons will not be able to perform surgery using the XI Robot. These scopes are used on every DaVinci XI procedure. Intuitive has a set rate to repair the scope regardless of the full outcome of the repair. Using any other company for repair of these scopes could void the warranty on the Preventative Maintenance Agreement.
