About this opportunity
The Department of Energy Office of Science, via SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, seeks firm fixed price proposals for procurement of 70 hydrogen gas thyratron tubes for LCLS operations, with proposals due June 19, 2026 at 5:00 PM Pacific and clarification requests due June 12, 2026. No set-aside applies.
Place of performance is Menlo Park, California. The tubes must operate at 50 kV, 6 kA, and 180 Hz, with peak anode voltage of 55 kV and peak anode current of 15,000 A, per specifications dated April 14, 2026. Delivery must commence no later than 12 months after receipt of order at a rate of 2–3 tubes per month within a 24-month delivery window. NAICS code is 334510, Electromedical and Electrotherapeutic Apparatus Manufacturing; PSC code is AJ14, General Science and Technology R&D Services.
SLAC intends to award without discussions but reserves the right to conduct discussions if in its best interest. Evaluation employs best-value lowest-price technically acceptable source selection. Technical factors include ability to meet specifications, major milestones and delivery schedule, manufacturing capabilities and capacity, and past performance requiring documentation of at least two similar thyratrons manufactured under comparable circumstances. Business evaluation addresses price reasonableness, financial stability (Dun & Bradstreet SER score of 6 or lower), and acceptance of contractual terms. Large business offerors must submit a Small Business Subcontracting Plan if award exceeds $900,000. All offerors must register with SAM, comply with E-Verify, and certify Buy American Act compliance. Factory acceptance testing occurs at the vendor's site with full system reports provided to SLAC upon shipment. Domestic vendors use FOB Destination; international vendors use CIP SLAC, Menlo Park, Duty Unpaid, coordinated through Green Worldwide Shipping. Payment terms are Net 30. Proposals remain valid for 90 days after submission.
