About this opportunity

Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, through Fermi Forward Discovery Group, LLC (FFDG), is seeking proposals for the fabrication of PIP-II Laserwire Magnets to support the Proton Improvement Plan II particle accelerator project. The solicitation requires offerors to provide a built-to-print package including one first article magnet unit and 14 additional production units, along with associated tooling and technical drawings. Key qualifications include a minimum of five years of magnet fabrication experience and the ability to manufacture magnets to precise specifications using 10 AWG copper wire, 9-layer coils with 473 turns, and OFHC C10200 copper alloy. The procurement will be evaluated using a best-value trade-off approach that permits tradeoffs between cost and non-cost factors, with technical proposals evaluated on fabrication capabilities, past experience, and quality assurance plans. The amended proposal due date is February 3, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. CST, with a NAICS code of 334519 (Other Measuring and Controlling Device Manufacturing) and a small business size standard of 600 employees.

This is an unrestricted procurement with no set-aside designations, and no incumbent contractor is identified in the solicitation documents. The first article magnet is due by April 30, 2026, with all 15 total magnet assemblies required by December 31, 2026. Domestic offerors will use FOB Destination delivery terms to Fermilab in Batavia, Illinois, while non-domestic vendors will use DAP terms. Pricing must be firm-fixed in U.S. dollars with no currency conversion allowances, valid for 90 days from the proposal due date, though the specific award value or budget range is not disclosed in the available solicitation documents. Proposals must be submitted in two parts: a technical proposal demonstrating fabrication capabilities and a quality assurance plan, and a business/management proposal containing pricing, certifications, and representations, with all submissions subject to the Fermi Forward Discovery Group General Terms and Conditions for Supplies and applicable Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Department of Energy Acquisition Regulation (DEAR) clauses.

Update #2 · Latest ·

The Proton Improvement Plan II (PIP-II) particle accelerator will be the new heart of Fermilab, featuring a brand-new, 800-MeV, leading-edge superconducting linear accelerator. Its high intensity proton beam will power a broad range of particle physics experiments for decades to come and maintain Fermilab’s leadership as one of the world’s premier particle physics laboratories.

In support of this project, FNAL requires this acquisition for a built-to-print package of the PIP-II Laserwire Magnets as defined in the Statement of Work. Please review the requirements of the solicitation. "Attachment B - Drawings Package" are made available upon direct request to the Primary Contact listed on this notice.

AMENDMENT 1 - Amendment 1 extends the proposal due date from January 20th, 2026 to February 3, 2026. All other terms remain unchanged. Please see the attachmed Amendment 1 Summary Document for details.
