About this opportunity
Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory seeks proposals for cryogenic rupture disks and burst alert sensors to protect the Proton Improvement Plan II superconducting radio frequency cryomodules from overpressure, with proposals due October 30, 2026 at 2:00 PM Central Time. Amendment 2, dated October 23, extended the deadline from October 27; Amendment 1 (October 21) added Q&A responses and clarified technical requirements including mandatory ASME and UD stamp certification, Inconel material for rupture disk bodies, and weld specifications for leak tightness in sub-atmospheric helium service.
The procurement is unrestricted with no set-aside, NAICS 332911 (Industrial Valve Manufacturing), and a 750-employee small business size standard. Place of performance is Batavia, Illinois. The specification requires 30 cryogenic rupture disks RD-nn21 at 3.1 barg set pressure, 3 rupture disks RD-0121 at 1.75 barg, and 33 burst alert sensors, all for CM 2K helium applications per specification ED0049129. Disks must achieve a helium mass spectrometer leak rate of 10⁻⁸ atm-cc/sec and specified flow rates (8.87 kg/s and 8.51 kg/s respectively). The cartridge assembly shall be welded for leak tightness and bolted to ASME B16.5 flange connections; Inconel 600 or Inconel 625 is acceptable for the cartridge assembly connections.
Evaluation uses lowest price technically acceptable source selection. Pricing must be firm-fixed-price in USD, valid for 90 days, submitted on Exhibit F; no currency conversion or economic price escalation is accepted. International shipments move DAP (Incoterms 2020) to Batavia with the contractor responsible for export clearance; domestic shipments are FOB Destination Batavia. Payment is made upon FFDG acceptance, delivery, inspection, and testing. Deliverables include ASME Section VIII Certificates of Compliance with National Board certification, mill/material traceability, and burst certification. The work is performed under DOE prime contract DE-AC02-07CH11359. Proposals must include Part I (technical proposal demonstrating specification compliance, relevant five-year experience, and delivery schedule) and Part II (firm-fixed-price pricing). Questions deadline was October 20, 2:00 PM CDT. Contact Seth Fryar, Procurement Specialist, (630) 840-3665 or sfryar@fnal.gov.
