About this opportunity
The Defense Health Agency Contracting Activity in Fort Detrick, Maryland intends to negotiate on a sole-source basis with Pacific Biosciences to provide equipment maintenance services for a PacBio Vega gene sequencer; capability statements are due July 22, 2026.
Performance takes place at Aberdeen Proving Ground–South, Maryland (Building E-2850, 8300 Ricketts Point Road), where the Vega system supports bacterial identification for personnel at duty stations worldwide. The instrument requires Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) trained and certified service technicians; all contractor personnel must hold OEM training and certification before contract start. The Vega gene sequencer uses complex internal optics to measure single-molecule-level fluorescence in zero-mode waveguides for real-time detection.
The base period runs eight months (September 30, 2026 through May 31, 2027) with four twelve-month option periods and a potential six-month extension. Services include one annual preventive maintenance visit, unlimited technical and analytical phone support, software upgrades as available, on-site repairs (standard repairs within eight business days; emergency repairs within two days), and on-site equipment rental as requested. Response time for standard repairs is one to two business days; emergency response is four hours. Travel costs, parts, and labor are included in the contract price. Contractor personnel must complete Anti-Terrorism Level I and iWATCH training within 30 calendar days of award and obtain an "Escort Only" badge for facility access.
The NAICS classification is 334516 with a 1,000-employee size standard. This is a simplified acquisition conducted under FAR 12.102(a) sole-source authority with no set-aside restrictions. Interested parties should submit technical data and cost capability statements by the July 22 deadline.
