About this opportunity
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Office of Acquisition Services has issued a Notice of Intent to Sole Source for a Hitachi S4800I field-emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) service contract. This special notice was posted on April 20, 2026, with a response deadline of May 20, 2026. The contract will be awarded to a single source without competitive bidding. The microscope is located at the NIOSH facility in Morgantown, West Virginia. The CDC is seeking a qualified contractor to provide comprehensive maintenance and technical support services for this specialized laboratory equipment.
The primary objective of this sole source procurement is to secure a factory-trained service provider capable of delivering preventive maintenance, emergency support, and technical assistance for the Hitachi FE-SEM during the contract period of June 1, 2026, through May 31, 2027. Contractors must be able to supply Hitachi factory-trained service engineers with proprietary knowledge of the equipment and commit to providing one annual preventive maintenance visit, unlimited emergency visits, and unlimited telephone technical support during normal business hours with a 48-hour response time for service requests. All work will be performed at the NIOSH laboratory in Morgantown, and contractors must include travel expenses up to ten days for preventive and emergency visits, with additional labor and travel invoiced at 20 percent below current demand service rates. Key evaluation criteria include the offeror's ability to provide factory-trained engineers, proprietary components, comprehensive support services, and an average turnaround time of two working days. Eligible contractors must demonstrate capacity to deliver electronically signed service reports within five business days of each visit. The contracting officer is Alycia Knepp, who can be reached at 304-285-5705 or aknepp@cdc.gov.
