About this opportunity

The Department of the Army Medical Command through the Fort Hood Health Contracting Branch Medical Readiness Contracting Office-West intends to award a sole source contract to Cepheid for annual maintenance and calibration services of GeneXpert Covid Tester Systems. The equipment is government-owned and located at the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, specifically serving the Department of Pathology and Microbiology Department. This notice was posted on August 18, 2025, with responses due by August 25, 2025. The contract will be structured as a Firm-Fixed Price agreement under the authority of simplified procedures for certain commercial items. The NAICS code for this opportunity is 811210 - Electronic and Precision Equipment Repair and Maintenance.

The primary objective of this sole source award is to ensure continuous operation and maintenance of critical Covid testing equipment used for patient care at the military medical facility. Market research conducted by the government determined that Cepheid is the only vendor capable of providing full-service maintenance and calibration for these systems, as they are the original manufacturer with proprietary firmware necessary to operate the molecular analyzers. The contract includes a base year beginning October 1, 2025, with four additional option years available. This is explicitly not a request for competitive proposals or quotes, and the government will not honor requests for capability briefings or telephonic inquiries. Only Cepheid is eligible to receive this contract award, as they are the sole authorized provider of maintenance services for these systems in the United States, and using any other vendor would void existing equipment warranties.
