About this opportunity
The US Coast Guard is seeking specialized machining services for MTU 20V4000 engine components, specifically requiring crankcase and crankshaft reconditioning work that includes hot tank cleaning, cylinder bore machining, surface resurfacing, magnetic and visual inspections, polishing, and component replacements. The procurement covers two separate work items, each involving the reconditioning of one crankcase and one crankshaft for MTU 20V4000M93L engines. Contractors must be MTU authorized distributors with specific capabilities including proprietary maintenance standards, precise machining equipment, and authorization from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (MTU/RRSA). The solicitation will be evaluated on a best value basis considering technical requirements, deadline adherence, and pricing, with past performance reviewed for responsibility determination. Quotes must be submitted via email to Kenneth Tankersley at Kenneth.C.Tankersley2@uscg.mil by July 9, 2025, at 9:00 AM Eastern, with the solicitation number 70Z04025QBLKNCRNK in the subject line.
The solicitation documentation indicates conflicting set-aside information, with one document showing no set-aside while another references a Women-Owned Small Business set-aside at 100%. Only two large businesses have been identified as capable of meeting the technical requirements: MTU/RRSA and Pacific Power Group, with the government emphasizing the need for highly specialized contractors capable of performing work to strict OEM specifications. The performance period for each work item is approximately one month, with an estimated shipping date of August 1 and performance period from August 15 to September 15, requiring a 30-day turnaround to meet scheduling and mission requirements. The work will be performed for engine components supporting Coast Guard operations, with the procurement managed through the USCG Surface Forces Logistics Center. While specific contract values are not disclosed in the available documentation, the procurement falls under FAR 13 Simplified Acquisition Procedures, suggesting a value below the simplified acquisition threshold.
