About this opportunity

The Department of Veterans Affairs Strategic Acquisition Center has issued a modified Special Notice announcing its intent to award sole source contracts to two companies for ambient scribe technology solutions. This amendment, dated June 24, 2025, revises the apparent awardees to Knowtex Inc. and Abridge AI, Inc., both winners of the "AI Tech Sprint for Documenting VA Clinical Encounters and Integrating Community Care Data" challenge. The procurement is being conducted under the authority of the America COMPETES Act and Executive Order 14110, with contracts expected to be awarded within 60 days of the notice. The VA is pursuing this as a sole source acquisition under FAR 13.5 for commercial items, classified under NAICS code 541715. The Veterans Health Administration's Digital Health Office is the beneficiary of these contracts on behalf of the broader VA system.

The purpose of this procurement is to implement pilot programs that will test and evaluate commercial, cloud-based ambient scribe tools utilizing artificial intelligence and Software as a Service technologies in live VA environments. These solutions will transcribe clinical encounters, generate notes, and integrate seamlessly with the VA Electronic Health Record system, allowing providers to initiate encounter recording without manual patient data entry and automatically insert draft notes without copy-paste efforts. Any responsible sources believing they are qualified to provide these products may submit responses to William.Milline@va.gov or Cristine.Carmody@va.gov by the July 8, 2025 deadline. Responses must include detailed documentation to enable proper government market research and determination of whether to proceed with competitive procurement. The government retains sole discretion in determining whether to compete this requirement based on received responses, and this notice explicitly states it is not a request for proposals.
