About this opportunity
The Department of the Air Force Special Operations Command's 27th Special Operations Contracting Squadron is procuring a laser etching machine capable of precision engraving on metals, plastics, and composites to support unit-level marking of tools, equipment, and other durable items requiring permanent identification. The required laser etcher must feature a 24" x 24" x 9" work area with dual-source lasers (CO2 60W and Fiber 30W), resolution ranging from 75 to 1200 DPI, engraving speeds up to 165 IPS with 5G acceleration, and an expected operational lifespan of 50,000 laser hours over 10+ years. The solicitation emphasizes the need for a dual-capability system that can mark over 1000+ chrome and shiny metal tools without voiding manufacturer warranties, operating on standard 120V wall outlets due to power constraints in their Tool Crib facility. Evaluation will be based on technical acceptability (meeting specified dimensions and requirements), past performance (no negative history), and price, with award going to the lowest-priced technically acceptable vendor. Quotes are due September 22, 2025, at 12:00 P.M. Mountain Daylight Time, with responses to be submitted via email to designated points of contact.
This procurement is designated as a 100% small business set-aside under NAICS code 333517 (Machine Tool Manufacturing) with a size standard of 500 employees, and no incumbent contractors are identified in the solicitation documents. The solicitation seeks a single laser etching unit, though no specific contract value or budget range is disclosed in the available documentation. The equipment will be delivered to Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, New Mexico, where it will serve the 6th Special Operations Aircraft Maintenance Squadron (6 SOAMXS). Vendors must be registered in the System for Award Management and provide financial institution references as part of their qualification requirements. The procurement timeline is compressed, with quotes due just four days after the initial posting date, reflecting the urgency of this specialized equipment acquisition.
