About this opportunity

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Veterans Health Administration, specifically the VA Great Lakes Acquisition Center (GLAC), has issued a Special Notice announcing its intent to negotiate a sole source contract with Abiomed, Inc. for preventative maintenance and emergency repairs of Impella equipment at three VA medical centers located in Milwaukee, WI, Hines, IL, and Chicago, IL. The contract will span a base year from May 1, 2025, to April 30, 2026, with four additional option years. This procurement is being conducted under Statutory Authority 41 U.S.C. 1901 and Simplified Acquisition Procedures, with the determination that only Abiomed, Inc. can satisfy the agency's specific requirements. The contract falls under NAICS code 811210 for Electronic and Precision Equipment Repair and Maintenance.

Interested contractors who believe they can meet the VA's requirements must submit capability statements by February 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM CDT via email to Eileen Meyer. To be considered eligible, vendors must provide comprehensive documentation including: an OEM authorization letter, proof of ability to purchase OEM parts, documentation of OEM-certified technical personnel, evidence of 24-hour phone support, and capability to provide one free equipment rental per contract year. The VA emphasizes that only new, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) items are acceptable, strictly prohibiting used, refurbished, remanufactured, gray market, or counterfeit supplies. While the VA will evaluate any responses received, the agency maintains sole discretion in determining whether to compete the procurement. If no qualifying responses are submitted, the VA will proceed with direct sole source negotiations with Abiomed, Inc.
