About this opportunity
The Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, issued a notice of intent to award a sole-source purchase order to Radiation Solutions Inc. for one RSX-1 Sodium Iodide Radiation Detector, with responses due by August 14, 2026, at 11:00 AM Eastern Time. This is not a competitive solicitation; the Government reserves sole discretion to determine whether to conduct competitive procurement based on responses received.
The detector supports the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine's requirement to enable directional radiation source identification and health risk assessments for Air Force personnel protection. USAFSAM currently operates one RSX-1 unit but requires a second unit to establish a networked two-detector array capable of triangulating and pinpointing radiation sources. The specified 4" × 4" × 16" RSX-1 model is mandatory for seamless integration with existing equipment and multi-detector array functionality. Required specifications include a Thallium-activated Sodium Iodide scintillation crystal with minimum active volume of 4.0 liters, energy resolution less than 8.5%, detection range from 20 keV to 3.0 MeV, 1024-channel spectral output, automatic gain stabilization, integrated Advanced Digital Spectrometer capable of processing up to 250,000 counts per second, ruggedized weather-sealed enclosure not exceeding 750 mm (L) × 170 mm (W) × 180 mm (H) and 25 kg, continuous operation from −30°C to +45°C, and 9–40 VDC power compatibility drawing no more than 6 Watts.
Responses must be submitted by email to michael.hornberger.1@us.af.mil with subject line "RSX-1." Only PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, or XLSX attachments are permitted; ZIP and EXE files will be deleted by email filters.
