Location (building, room, etc.)
Equipment Identification
Equipment Information
Manufacturer, Model, Catalog Number and Type
Equipment Rating (Voltage, Ampacity, Interrupting Rating, etc.)
Configuration (Main Lug, Main breaker, Number of breakers, etc.)
Overcurrent Protection
Relaying Type, Manufacturer, Function(s), CT and PT ratios, etc.
Fuses Type, Manufacturer, Rating, etc.
Existing Settings
Cable Type, Size and Length (lengths are to be field confirmed)
Cable Busway Type, Manufacturer, Rating and Length
Motor Load and Contactor Data (record data and application for motors 25 HP and above)
Contractor must coordinate with facility engineering staff to obtain necessary power company data such as minimum and maximum fault currents as well as X/R ratios.
Correspondence documenting utility data shall be included in the final submittal.
Data collection requires the removal and/or opening of equipment to field verify data.
Data collection requires observing each piece of equipment covered by this study. Contractor shall record and report any deficiencies, such as missing identifying labels, warning labels, non-functioning latches or locks, missing hardware (covers, screws, breaker blank fillers, etc.), etc.
Short Circuit Study
Contractor shall use field-verified single line drawings and data to perform a three-phase bolted fault short-circuit momentary and interrupting duties system short circuit calculation for the facilities electrical system. The calculations shall be conducted in accordance with applicable ANSI C37.010, C37.5, C37.13, NFPA 70E, NEMA, and NEC standards and codes. At a minimum the following location shall be included:
Electric utility supply termination point.
Incoming switchgear.
Unit substation primary and secondary terminals.
Low voltage switchgear.
Motor control center
Standby generator and automatic transfer switch.
Branch panelboard.
The study shall identify and report data used in the calculations in both descriptive terms (cable wire size, motor hp, transformer kVA and impedance, etc.) and impedance values. Transformer nameplate impedance shall be used when available.
A section of the study shall be devoted to verification of equipment duty ratings identifying whether equipment is within or operating outside it interrupting rating. Short circuit calculations must be tabulated and included with the project submittals.
Protective Device Coordination Study
Contractor shall provide a Protective Device Coordination Study to determine satisfactory setting and ratings for the facility s major protective devices in accordance with applicable industrial standards such as ANSI/IEEE 399 and ANSI/IEEE 242. Coordination Study results must include time-current curves (TCC) supporting findings and recommendation to be provided with project submittals. Deficiencies in device settings or-rated equipment are to be noted in the report.
Protective device settings are to be tabulated separately and included within the report.
Arc Flash Hazard Analyses
Contractor shall perform an Arc Flash Hazard Analyses in compliance with IEEE 1584, NFPA 70 and NFPA 70E. Flash protection boundary and incident energy levels shall be calculated at all significant locations in the electrical distribution system. Incident energy calculations must consider multiple system scenarios (normal) to establish the worst-case incident energy level for each equipment studied under this study. Additionally, calculations should emphasize a conservative approach for the protection of personnel. Incident energy and flash protection boundary calculations results must be tabulated and included with project submittals.
Protective Device Settings
Contractor shall set adjustable protective devices to reflect proposed settings identified in the Protective Coordination Study. This must be coordinated with facility engineering staff as certain device settings can only be performed during a power outage.
Equipment Labeling and Miscellaneous Work
Contractor shall provide and install arc flash warning labels for designated electrical devices evaluated under this study. All arc flash labels shall comply with NFPA 70E and include:
