About this opportunity
The U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service is seeking to award a contract for the installation of a new well at the Foresthill Seed Orchard. The existing wells on the opposite side of Foresthill Road are running dry mid-season and unable to provide sufficient irrigation water for the trees on both sides of the road, putting the seedlings in the North Zone seed orchard at risk of mortality. The new well is critical to prevent tree loss and support the regional reforestation effort, as well as improve the orchard's resilience against wildfires. Contractors will be responsible for drilling a 400-foot well, installing casing and pumping equipment, and obtaining the necessary permits. Proposals are due by July 26, 2024, and the agency plans to release additional information in response to questions received by July 23, 2024.
This contract opportunity is a total small business set-aside, with a period of performance of 60 days after the notice to proceed is issued. The estimated value of the contract is between $25,000 and $100,000, and the place of performance is Foresthill, California. The NAICS code is 237110 - Water and Sewer Line and Related Structures Construction, and the PSC code is Y1NE - Construction Of Water Supply Facilities.
Notice text
The wells on the opposite side of Foresthill road run dry mid-season every year and don’t supply the current amount of water needed to irrigate orchards on both sides of the road. Without this new well installation the trees in the North Zone seed orchard are at risk of dying from lack of available water for crucial irrigation to keep the seedlings alive.
The new well will prevent tree mortality and years of setback for the orchards’ ability to provide much needed cones & seed for the regional reforestation effort not to mention better protection against yearly threats from wildfires by providing sufficient irrigation water. The recent Mosquito fire came dangerously close to this orchard and currently the only way to get water to that side of the road is a pvc pipe ran through a county owned culvert under Foresthill road. Spring and early summer is a critical time for improving tree health and resiliency, and completing this well installation during the limited window before summer heat and dry weather is crucial.
