About this opportunity

The US Department of Agriculture Forest Service is seeking contractors to repair the Chambers Creek Trail Bridge in the Plumas National Forest through solicitation 127EAW25R0044. The project involves removing and replacing a wildfire-damaged 1967 steel truss bridge with a new prefabricated steel bridge, including clearing and grubbing, approach construction, concrete abutment retrofit, hazardous lead paint containment and disposal, and installation of IPE hardwood decking. Contractors must design and fabricate a modular bridge superstructure with specific requirements including a 6-foot wide H-section truss configuration and maximum module weight of 5,000 pounds to facilitate helicopter transportation. The project requires comprehensive safety and quality control plans, with work restricted to non-holiday weekdays from 0700-1800 hours during the fire precautionary period. Key deadlines include the mandatory site visit on July 29, 2025 at 0900 AM PDT, the August 4, 2025 deadline for submitting Requests for Information to Contract Specialist Tanya Torres, and the final proposal submission deadline of August 14, 2025.

This opportunity is designated as a Total Small Business Set Aside under NAICS code 237310 (Highway, Street, and Bridge Construction), with no incumbent contractors identified in the documentation. The contract value is disclosed to be between $500,000 and $1,000,000, with a performance period of 365 calendar days and a requirement for the contractor to begin work within 10 calendar days of receiving the notice to proceed. Work will be performed at the Chambers Creek Trail Bridge location in the Plumas National Forest in California, approximately 1.8 miles from California State Route 70. The project is anticipated to commence on September 1, 2025, and includes specific technical requirements such as designing for a 310 PSF snow load with concurrent 20 PSF skier live load, using high-strength, low-alloy steel from an AISC-certified fabrication plant, and implementing helicopter transport for materials due to the remote location.
