About this opportunity
The Department of the Air Force Global Strike Command, specifically the 341st Contracting Squadron at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana, has issued a Special Notice announcing its intent to sole-source a contract for a five-year inspection of three cranes. The contract will be awarded to MGX Equipment Services, which is identified as the sole authorized National Crane repair company in Montana. The special notice pertains to performing a required 5-Year 3000 hour boom disassembly and inspection according to the Manitowoc Crane 1100 Operation and Service Manual for the 341 Logistic Readiness Squadron. The opportunity is categorized under NAICS code 811310 for commercial and industrial machinery equipment repair and maintenance, with a specific product service code of J036 for maintenance and repair of special industry machinery.
The primary objective of this special notice is to conduct a specialized crane inspection through a sole-source procurement, with the government emphasizing that while this is not a competitive solicitation, all responsible sources may submit a quote or capability statement. Contractors wishing to challenge the sole-source designation must provide clear and convincing evidence that competition would be advantageous to the government. The response deadline is May 21, 2025, by 12:00 PM Mountain Standard Time, and submissions must be sent directly to SSgt Cody West via email at cody.west.2@us.af.mil. Written responses are mandatory, with oral communications explicitly prohibited. If no affirmative written response is received challenging the sole-source award, the contract will be made to MGX Equipment Services without further notice. Potential contractors should carefully review the notice's requirements and be prepared to demonstrate their capabilities if they believe they can provide a competitive alternative to the proposed sole-source contractor.
