The New Bedford-Fairhaven-Acushnet Hurricane Barrier was completed in 1966. The Barrier consists of a central gated channel with earthfill dikes with stone slope protection extending back on both sides, the Clarks Cove Dike in New Bedford, and the Fairhaven Dike. The gated channel is composed of two 59ft tall steel sector gates. An allision occurred on May 23, 2020 causing damage to the Fairhaven side (east) sector gate. This project is being solicited to repair this damage and involves dive and floating plant based repairs. The scope of work includes replacement of 23 fenders, and replacement of a damaged steel gate guide and strut.
This project has the following major components:
1. Inspect the sill of the navigation channel between Gate Guides G-1 to G-8 on the Fairhaven side to determine that this area is clear of debris. Clear all marine growth from wheel guides on G3 and G5 beams. All debris identified by this underwater inspection shall be removed by the Contractor and an equitable adjustment to the contract price will be made.
2. Remove 23 fenders and remnants located above and below Mean Low Water.
3. Remove Gate Guide G-4 and one support strut.
