About this opportunity
Brookhaven Science Associates LLC (BSA), operating on behalf of the Department of Energy Office of Science, seeks qualified contractors to design, fabricate, and construct an experimental endstation clean room cabin for the National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II) facility at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The cabin will enclose the Infrared Nanospectroscopy Facility (INF) beamline and must provide a controlled environment for materials research and quantum computing experiments. Key requirements include developing a comprehensive Final Design Review report, conducting factory and on-site acceptance tests, providing detailed documentation, and maintaining strict quality assurance and environmental, safety, and health standards. While the pre-solicitation notice does not specify evaluation criteria, contractors should expect assessment based on technical capability, schedule feasibility, and cost competitiveness. The formal solicitation is anticipated to be posted to SAM.gov by January 2026, with a response deadline of January 16, 2026 for this pre-solicitation notice.
This procurement carries no set-aside designation and has not identified any incumbent contractors. The applicable NAICS code is 236210 (clean room construction) with a size standard of $45.0 million, and the PSC code is Y1EZ (construction of other industrial buildings). BSA anticipates awarding one firm-fixed price contract with an award date around March 2026. The project timeline spans approximately 23 weeks from contract award, with critical milestones including Final Design Review at week 4, Factory Acceptance Tests at week 16, equipment delivery at week 18, installation completion at week 22, and final commissioning at week 23. The contractor must provide a two-year warranty against failures and defects and ensure the cabin maintains a minimum design life of 30 years.
