About this opportunity
The National Institute of Standards and Technology issued a sole-source notice of intent on July 1, 2026, for emergency repair of a Bruker timsTOF Pro 2 mass spectrometer, with responses due by July 16, 2026. NIST intends to negotiate directly with Bruker Corporation, Inc. (Billerica, MA) under FAR 12.102(a) authority based on market research establishing Bruker as the sole responsible source for authorized repair of this equipment. The Material Measurement Sciences Division operates the Rapid Drug Analysis and Research (RaDAR) program, which provides near real-time drug analysis to public health and public safety partners nationwide using high-resolution mass spectrometry to identify and characterize novel compounds in the street drug supply. A recent heat failure requires repair or replacement of the instrument. Bruker's proprietary technology is protected by patents and copyrights; use of any other repair provider voids the existing warranty or maintenance agreement. The requirement is classified under NAICS 811210 (Other Electronic and Precision Equipment Repair and Maintenance) with a small business size standard of $34 million. No solicitation package will be issued. Interested parties who believe they can fulfill the requirements are invited to respond by the July 16 deadline, though this notice is not a request for competitive quotations.
