About this opportunity
The U.S. Department of the Air Force is conducting market research to identify potential sources for the development, production, and refurbishment of an Elevation Gearbox Assembly (EGA) Part Number 14503-01, which is designed to control the positioning of a 27-meter dish radar system. The government is seeking companies with expertise in manufacturing, repair capabilities, commerciality, and reverse engineering capabilities to meet specific technical requirements including acceleration, velocity, positioning accuracy, and weight capacity specifications. Contractors must demonstrate their ability to work with mixed teams of military, civilian, national partners, and contract personnel from various services and agencies, though the security clearance level and foreign participation requirements have not yet been determined. The government will evaluate responses based on documentation provided in the Contractor Capability Survey that demonstrates each company's technical capabilities and capacity to meet the stringent requirements. Responses to the market research survey are due by close of business on December 17, 2024, with questions directed to Contracting Officer Brandon Jones and Program Manager David Holst.
No set-aside designation has been made for this opportunity, and the government will determine the final procurement strategy after analyzing small business responses and other market research data. The contract scope includes the development, production, delivery, installation, testing, and refurbishment of three gearboxes total, consisting of one new gearbox and two refurbished units. A first article gearbox will be developed and tested as part of the qualification process. Small businesses are encouraged to participate and should identify potential teaming arrangements, joint ventures, or subcontracting relationships if they cannot fulfill the entire requirement independently. The government is also soliciting input on which portions of the work should be broken out exclusively for small business participation. Both large and small businesses are encouraged to respond to this market research, with joint ventures and teaming arrangements specifically encouraged by the contracting office.
