About this opportunity
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is soliciting quotations for custom magneto-resistive (MTJ) sensors to support its Sensor Science Division's CHIPS Metrology Project. The sensors will be used in a scanning magnetic microscope designed to acquire 3D thermal images in semiconductor packages. Key technical requirements include a frequency range from DC to 100 kHz, a 1/f noise knee at 1 kHz or below, field sensitivity of 1 nT/(Hz)^0.5, and operational capability in saturation fields up to 10 mT across temperatures of 10°C to 85°C. Single pixel sensors must measure 2 mm x 2 mm, while 2D arrays must contain at least 2,500 sensors in a 50 mm x 50 mm configuration. Award will be made to the lowest priced, technically acceptable offeror, with technical acceptability determined by demonstration that proposed equipment meets or exceeds all minimum requirements supported by product literature and specifications. Quotations must be submitted electronically to cielo.ibarra@nist.gov and donald.collie@nist.gov no later than 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time on March 30, 2026, with pre-quote inquiries due by March 26, 2026, and quotations remaining valid for 90 days following submission.
This is an unrestricted procurement with no set-aside designation, classified under NAICS code 334516 (Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing). No specific incumbent contractor or award value is identified in the solicitation materials. The contractor must deliver a minimum of 100 single pixel sensors and 4 arrays, preferably diced, with complete CAD documentation and measured specifications within 240 days after receipt of order. Deliverables include initial design drawings (20 days), final design drawings (20 days), and at least two wafers of magneto-resistive sensors with a 200-day lead time. Performance will occur at NIST's facility in Gaithersburg, Maryland (100 Bureau Drive, MS 1640, Gaithersburg, MD 20899), with delivery on an FOB Destination basis. The contractor must provide one year of technical support and warranty coverage for a minimum of one year after acceptance, with payment made at 100% upon inspection, acceptance testing, and receipt of a proper invoice under Net 30-day terms.
