About this opportunity

The Department of Energy's Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking contractors for the Cross Gallery Southwest Annex Refresh Project, a comprehensive renovation of the 2nd floor workspace at their Batavia, Illinois facility. The scope includes furniture and partition management, extensive painting of various surfaces including drywall, concrete walls, and ductwork, exterior door replacement, removal of approximately 588 square feet of existing carpet and installation of 1,493 square feet of Interface Basalt carpet tiles, and replacement of 76 linear feet of pipe insulation. The work requires careful coordination due to limited access via staircases only, with no elevator available for material transport. A pre-proposal meeting and site visit was scheduled for May 20, 2025, at 10:00 AM, with proposals originally due June 10, 2025. However, Amendment No. 2 dated June 12, 2025, has canceled the current Request for Proposal, effectively terminating this solicitation opportunity.

This procurement was designated as a total small business set-aside under NAICS code 236220 (Commercial and Institutional Building Construction) with a small business size standard of $45.0 million. No incumbent contractors or specific award values were identified in the solicitation documents. The project involves specific technical requirements including Benjamin Moore paint in various colors (Parchment, Black, and NAL Blue) with different finishes, installation of a galvanized heavy metal door frame with panic hardware, and Interface Basalt carpet tiles secured with corner adhesive tabs. The work location is the Cross Gallery Southwest Annex at Fermilab in Batavia, Illinois, specifically targeting rooms SW202, SW204, SW206, and SW210. The contractor would have been responsible for obtaining independent measurements, providing appropriate materials, maintaining safety during construction, and completing periodic debris removal throughout the project duration.
