About this opportunity
The National Institutes of Health Office of Logistics and Acquisition Operations seeks comprehensive Tier 1 extended warranty maintenance support for a Micro Photonics Medikors DEXA InAlyzer Scanner serving the NIH Mouse Imaging Facility, with proposals due July 25, 2026. This is a sole-source acquisition; the justification documents that MicroPhotonics is the sole USA distributor and only authorized service provider for this equipment.
Place of performance is Bethesda, Maryland. The scanner performs Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry to measure bone mineral density and body composition in ongoing approved biomedical research studies. The contractor shall provide full hardware and software support coverage, including all associated system parts and X-ray source, with one required annual onsite preventive maintenance visit by a MicroPhotonics engineer to conduct full system checks, optimize performance, verify safety, and ensure long-term reliability. Performance covers a 12-month base year (December 20, 2025 through December 19, 2026) plus four optional one-year renewal periods through December 19, 2030.
The annual cost is $16,200 (reflecting a negotiated 10% discount from $18,000), with a five-year total of $81,000. This is a renewal of a prior purchase order (POTS 25-006650, PO #7741544). The NAICS code is 541380, Testing Laboratories and Services; the PSC code is J066, Maintenance/Repair/Rebuild of Equipment—Instruments and Laboratory Equipment. The acquisition falls under FAR Part 13 simplified acquisition procedures.
Notice text
The purpose of this acquisition is to provide the NIH Mouse Imaging Facility (MIF) with
hardware and software extended warranty maintenance support for its InAlyzer DEXA
Scanner. This equipment uses Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA or DXA) to
measure bone mineral density (BMD) and body composition (BMC, FAT, LEAN) of subjects
for ongoing biomedical research studies of human conditions. This system is a highthroughput device. With its speed and low radiation dose it allows longitudinal surveys of
subjects; therefore, it can screen subjects to determine which subjects are best suited for
higher resolution, more time consumptive imaging modalities like microCT that has a
significantly longer acquisition data processing times. Together with our current scanners,
DEXA use will increase the amount of imaging information available to researchers, while
also saving time and allowing focused research on a targeted subset of subjects.
This machine is used for ongoing approved research studies that began prior to January 20,
2025. It is vital that this machine is properly maintained at the highest gold standards for
accurate research data acquisition. This maintenance is necessary to support ongoing
research studies so that this work can continue, and investigators do not lose investment in
these ongoing studies. The DEXA saves researchers time and money because the subjects
can be studied longitudinally.
