About this opportunity
Brookhaven Science Associates (BSA), under the Department of Energy Office of Science, is seeking small business contractors for power and cooling infrastructure upgrades at the Scientific Data and Computing Center (SDCC) in Building 725. The project involves supplying and installing a 1.2-megawatt power system upgrade, which includes a 1.75 MW emergency power generator, transformers, PDUs, busways, cable trays, and fusible switches. Contractors are required to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) by February 11, 2025, at 5 PM, including specific documentation such as business details, point of contact information, Sam.gov Unique Entity Identifier, capability statement, and small business certifications. Interested parties must email their submission to Joseph Famiglietti at jfamiglie@bnl.gov. While specific evaluation criteria are not detailed in the pre-solicitation notice, the focus appears to be on small business contractors with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure capabilities.
The contract opportunity is designated as a total small business set-aside, targeting contractors in the Power and Communication Line and Related Structures Construction NAICS category (237130). The project scope also includes installing a 445-ton chiller and cooling tower, with BSA furnishing the equipment, while the contractor will handle installation of associated piping, electrical power, control systems, and circulation pumps. The upgrades are intended to incrementally enhance the existing infrastructure systems at the SDCC. Although no specific budget range is provided, the complexity of the power and cooling infrastructure suggests a significant investment. The project appears to be a critical upgrade to support scientific data processing and computing capabilities, with the work focused on expanding and modernizing the facility's technical infrastructure.
