About this opportunity
The 35th Contracting Squadron at Misawa Air Base, Japan is seeking to procure a Bowling Center Lane Walker for the Walmsley Bowling Center under the 35th Force Support Squadron. The procuring agency is the Department of the Air Force Pacific Air Forces. This single-source procurement action is intended to be awarded to American Bowling Service, Inc., though the government will consider proposals from other qualified firms that can demonstrate equivalent capabilities. The evaluation will focus on firms' ability to provide equivalent supply or service and their rationale for consideration as an alternative to the single-source awardee. Interested parties must submit an interest letter within seven days of the notice publication date to challenge the single-source designation, with the submission deadline being April 14, 2026.
This procurement carries no set-aside designations and the incumbent contractor is American Bowling Service, Inc., a Kegel equipment distributor. The single-source justification is based on Misawa Air Base's substantial existing inventory, specialized mechanic training, and ongoing support infrastructure specific to Kegel-branded equipment and parts, as well as the proximity of Kegel technical support resources in Tokyo. Switching to alternative brands such as Brunswick would require significant capital investment in new equipment, conditioners, and incompatible parts, along with costly retraining of mechanics. No specific contract award value or quantity details are provided in the notice; however, the justification references this as a Simplified Acquisition supporting the Lane Cleaner project (FSWB-FSS) for the Walmsley Bowling Center. The contracting officer has determined that market research will be conducted prior to subsequent purchases to reassess whether single-source procurement remains appropriate for future requirements.
