About this opportunity
The Department of Veterans Affairs Great Lakes Acquisition Center is seeking single-nuclei purification, RNA sequencing, and data analysis services for the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. The procurement involves processing 8 samples using the 10x Genomics platform with v4 chemistry, targeting 5,000 nuclei per sample, along with comprehensive data analysis including nuclei isolation, library preparation, sequencing of approximately 200 million read pairs per sample, and advanced analytical processes such as dimensionality reduction, cell clustering, and differential expression analysis. The VA intends to negotiate a sole source contract under the authority of 41 U.S.C. 1901, citing that only one responsible source exists that can satisfy the agency's requirements. Interested contractors must submit capability statements electronically to Michael Hrdi at michael.hrdi@va.gov by 10:00 AM Central Time on July 17, 2025, providing detailed evidence of their ability to meet the technical requirements along with customer references. The evaluation will be conducted by the principal investigator due to the highly specialized scientific nature of the research, and the government reserves sole discretion to determine whether to proceed with competitive procurement or sole source negotiation.
This procurement does not utilize any set-aside designations and no current contractors or incumbents are identified in the notice. The contract is structured as a firm fixed-price arrangement with an estimated 6-month performance period and no option terms. The work falls under NAICS code 541714 (Research and Development in Biotechnology) and PSC code AN12 (Health R&D Services). The project involves processing exactly 8 samples with a target of 5,000 nuclei per sample and requires sequencing of approximately 200 million read pairs per sample. While no specific contract value is disclosed, the notice emphasizes that this is a sources sought notice rather than a formal solicitation, and a Request for Proposal may be issued at a later date depending on the responses received.
