About this opportunity

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for a sophisticated Computed Tomography (CT) Scanner to be delivered to Edwards Air Force Base in California. The RFI serves as market research to identify potential U.S. sources capable of providing a high-performance CT scanner with specific technical requirements, including a non-contact 225 kV emission system upgradable to 450 kV and a 500 lbs manipulator capacity. Interested vendors must submit responses by March 20, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. PST, providing company details, experience, business size classification, and socioeconomic status to Contracting Officer Daniel Thompson and Contract Specialist Robert Baker. The solicitation targets suppliers in the Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing sector (NAICS code 334516), with a small business size standard of 1,000 employees. This RFI is for planning purposes only and does not guarantee a future contract or procurement.

The pre-solicitation notice does not specify a specific set-aside for small businesses, though it provides detailed guidance for small business classification. No incumbent contractors are mentioned in the documentation. While no specific award value or budget range is disclosed, the RFI indicates an expectation that vendors could deliver the CT scanner within 60 days of a potential contract award. The technical requirements suggest a complex scientific instrument with advanced capabilities, including a 24" diameter scanning envelope, digital image enhancement features, and the ability to combine multiple scans. The Product Service Code for this procurement is 6635 for Physical Properties Testing and Inspection, indicating the specialized nature of the equipment being sought. Vendors are explicitly informed that no reimbursement will be provided for costs associated with responding to the RFI, and participation is entirely voluntary.
