About this opportunity
The Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Integrated Service Network 8 issued a Notice of Intent to Award as sole source to Covidien Sales LLC for acquisition, installation, training, and annual maintenance of the Medtronic Situate Detection System X for VISN 8 medical centers, with capability statements due by July 24, 2026 at 12:00 PM Eastern Time.
The Government seeks an integrated retained surgical item detection system capable of automated non-handheld under-patient RF scanning, handheld environmental RF scanning, workflow guidance supporting standardized clinical use, scan verification, documentation supporting the patient's medical record, and manufacturer-supported maintenance and technical assistance. Market research identified multiple manufacturers offering retained surgical item prevention products, but determined that no other commercially available system simultaneously satisfies all minimum operational requirements without revision. The anticipated contract consists of one twelve-month base period with four twelve-month option periods for continued Complete Care Service Plan coverage on a firm-fixed-price basis.
Delivery must occur to nine VISN 8 facilities across Florida—Bay Pines VAMC, Lee County OSC, Malcolm Randall VAMC in Gainesville, Lake City VAMC, Lake Baldwin OSC, Orlando VAMC, Jacksonville VAMC, West Palm Beach VAMC, and Tampa VAMC—during standard working hours Monday through Friday, 0700–1630. Any responsible source believing it can satisfy minimum requirements should submit a capability statement with supporting technical documentation demonstrating compliance with each minimum requirement. Submissions should address FDA clearance, scanning methodology, workflow functionality, installation and training approaches, maintenance and software support capabilities, warranty information, and trade compliance evidence. The contracting officer is Todd Pappas, todd.pappas@va.gov, Gainesville, Florida. NAICS 339112, PSC 6515.
