About this opportunity
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), specifically the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center, has issued a Special Notice announcing its intent to sole source the procurement of specialized radiopharmaceuticals. The notice focuses on acquiring Axumin, Amyvid, and Cerianna doses, which are critical diagnostic medications used for detecting prostate cancer, breast cancer, and Alzheimer's disease. The VA plans to negotiate exclusively with two specific vendors: PetNet Solutions (a Siemens Company) and TrillaMed, both authorized distributors of these proprietary radiopharmaceuticals. The procurement is being pursued under Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 6.302-1(a)(2), which allows for sole source procurement when only one responsible source can satisfy agency requirements. These radiopharmaceuticals are manufactured by Blue Earth Diagnostics Inc. and require local radiopharmacy distribution due to their short 10-hour shelf life.
The primary objective of this Special Notice is to identify potential alternative sources for these specialized medical diagnostic doses while maintaining the VA's ability to secure critical radiopharmaceuticals. Interested contractors have until September 18, 2024, at 5:00 PM EST to submit their capabilities and potential interest in providing these services, with the understanding that such information will be used solely to determine whether the procurement should remain sole sourced or be opened to competitive bidding. All inquiries must be submitted via email to Don Caldwell, using the subject line "RFQ 36C25024Q1072 Axumin, Amyvid and Cerianna Doses". The VA emphasizes that a determination to maintain the sole source approach is entirely at the government's discretion, and any information submitted will be evaluated at no cost or obligation to the government. Potential vendors should note that no solicitation is currently available, and the notice serves primarily as an opportunity for market research and potential source identification.
