About this opportunity
Brookhaven Science Associates, LLC, operator of Brookhaven National Laboratory on behalf of the Department of Energy Office of Science, is soliciting responses to a combined Request for Information and Synopsis for design, fabrication, testing, and delivery of an Ultra-High Vacuum Compatible Hybrid Pixel Detector System for the Booster Polarimeter, with RFI responses due August 12, 2026 at 5:00 PM.
Performance occurs at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, New York. The detector system must meet critical vacuum compatibility requirements: all materials exposed to vacuum must be compatible with 5×10⁻⁹ mbar conditions, using only low-outgassing materials including Arlon 35N or equivalent for core laminate, Arlon 49N or equivalent for prepreg, and DuPont Pyralux AP or equivalent for flexible circuits (all meeting TML ≤0.5%, CVCM ≤0.1% per ASTM E595). The sensor must be 300 micrometers thick with pixel pitch of 55 micrometers or smaller, minimum active area approximately 28 mm × 24 mm, and provide simultaneous per-pixel Time-of-Arrival and Time-over-Threshold readout. The feedthrough shall use ConFlat flange mounting with CF100 as maximum size (CF63 or smaller preferred). System bakeability to a minimum of 80°C is required.
The procurement specifies a base quantity of two detector units with options for an additional four and six units. The anticipated award date is September 2026, with site acceptance and commissioning required no later than 15 months after contract award. BSA anticipates a firm fixed-price solicitation with one award. The procurement is classified under NAICS 334516 (Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing, 1,000-employee size standard) and PSC 6650. BSA reserves the right to consider a small business set-aside for any subsequent acquisition. One or more items are subject to Free Trade Agreements. Contact Shaylyn Price at 631-344-2980 or sprice@bnl.gov.
