About this file
This is a specification document for Work Item 2: Compartment Insulation, Renew, part of the larger SPECIFICATION FOR WMEC INSULATION for the US Coast Guard Cutter DILIGENCE.
The work scope requires the Contractor to renew compartment insulation on bulkheads and/or overhead surfaces at designated locations specified in Table 1 of the Statement of Work. No government-furnished property is provided. The specification references multiple Coast Guard drawings (618, 627, 901, and 905 series WMEC 635 drawings) for system reference only, with the critical note that these drawings must not be used for installation methods or material specifications. The Contractor must comply with SFLC Std Spec 0000 (General Requirements) and SFLC Std Spec 6310 (Requirements for Preservation of Ship Structures), along with industry standards including ASTM C534, ASTM F683, and various MIL specifications (MIL-DTL-32585, MIL-I-742, MIL-I-22023, and MIL-A-23054). The primary insulation material specified is Fiberous Glass Cloth-Faced Board, Thermal Insulation (Hullboard) with lamination, conforming to MIL-DTL-32585, Type I. The Contractor must furnish and install all protective measures, handle interferences (overhead panels, wireways, bulkheads, machinery), and install insulation according to three scenarios: thermal treatment without sheathing, thermal treatment with perforated aluminum metal sheathing, or thermal and acoustic treatment with perforated faced materials. All newly installed insulation surfaces must be coated using the "Insulation Surfaces, Fiberglass Sheet/Closed Cell PVC Foam" system specified in SFLC Std Spec 6310, Appendix B.
