4. MATERIALS

4.1. Treated wood timber piles: All pilings shall meet AWPA treated wood standards for category UC5C, Marine Use, Southern Waters (Salt or Brackish Water). All bolt holes shall be drilled 1/8” larger than diameter of the bolt. The Awardee shall not split the ends of the timbers. Piles shall be at least 10” in diameter unless otherwise specified. Piles shall be protected from dropping, breaking of outer fibers, bruising, or penetration with tools.

4.2. Long piles: It is the Awardee’s responsibility to understand water depths and meet minimum embedment depths and sign height specifications. If water depths deeper than 12 feet are encountered, Awardee will be required to contact the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department’s representative to further coordinate prior to installation of piling(s). For these cases, the Awardee may use the long pile line-item option upon certifying that the piles were installed in accordance with the Work Plan and upon submission of the actual invoices. In these cases, pre-approval is needed for the use of longer piles. The

Awardee must ensure no overstress occurs and that the pile is installed plumb in the correct location.

4.3. Bird Spikes: Awardee to purchase and install E-Spike Economy Bird Spikes or pre-approved equal for the entire length of sign bracing. Use stainless-steel hardware per manufacturer’s recommendation.

4.4. Pile wrap: All new piles must have a high-density polyethylene wrap installed. Wrap shall be a minimum of 0.030” thick. The wrap shall be purchased and installed by the Awardee and installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions for the correct water depth where the pile is located. Prior to installation, piles must be cleaned and free of fecal material, mold, algae, mud, and other debris. A minimum of three (3) layers of self-adhering stretch wrap (minimum 80 gauge/20 micron) shall be applied beneath the 0.030” thick high-density polyethylene (HDPE) wrap. The HDPE wrap shall be secured using 1-1/4” stainless ring-shank roofing nails every 2” along the seam. The wrap shall be installed before installing the piling into the water. The wrap should be installed so that it will be 1-foot above mean high water and to the bottom of pile so that it reaches below mudline when embedded.

4.5. Pile caps: Unless otherwise specified, all pilings must have a pointed black plastic pile cap installed with

4-#10 x 1.5” 316 SS screws or pre-approved equal. Caps may not be altered to fit the top of the pile in any way, including splitting the cap.

4.6. Reflective tape: Awardee to install 2 strips of 6” 3M diamond grade white very high intensity prismatic reflective tape with minimum 1” overlap secured by 4 1” long stainless-steel staples. The first band of tape will be installed 6” below the sign with a second band 8” below the bottom of the first band. Tape delaminating before final inspection will require replacement before final approval. For replacement of tape on an existing piling, all existing tape remnants must be removed with their staples or other attachments and disposed of properly. For concrete piles, tape shall be applied with a 3” minimum overlap using adhesive backing.

4.7. Sign Panels: All signs to be 0/.08” thick aluminum w/ Super Engineer Grade (Type II) prismatic sheeting.

Lettering, border, and symbols are silk screened in the colors per the table on each detail sheet.

Lettering shall be on top of all borders, symbols, and graphic elements. Awardee to provide shop drawings, proof, or cut sheet for approval prior to ordering. Sign dimensions, holes, and details are all per provided details.

4.8. Attachment Hardware: All attachment hardware shall be type 316 stainless-steel unless otherwise noted.

All fasteners shall be vandal proof. Provide City of Tampa Parks and Recreation’s Representative with 4 of each type of specialty hardware tools for vandal-proof fasteners. All vandal-proof fasteners require pre-approval by City of Tampa Parks and Recreation’s Representative.

4.9. Bridge or Other Structure Mounts: Sign panels installed to composite pile and/or wood timber bridge fenders or other similar type of structures (such as fishing piers) will be attached per the specifications as stated above in the Hardware/Fasteners section. Sign panels installed on bridge piles will be attached with adjustable stainless-steel straps – no drilling in bridge piles is permitted unless specified. Sign panels shall be installed no less than 12” above the mean high-water surface as specified. When sign panels are removed from concrete structures, including bridges, any recess caused by a bolt hole shall be repaired with a type F or type I epoxy-based mortar for use on vertical concrete surfaces applied in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. The epoxy-based mortar shall be pre-approved by the

Owner and must meet the Florida Department of Transportation’s Qualified Products List Specification

926 F-1.

4.10. Cross-bracing: All framing for signboard must be PT lumber (0.60 CCA, 0.60 ACQ, or 0.60 ACZA).

4.11. Buoys

4.11.1. The Awardee shall provide all labor and materials for the complete installation of the buoys. All buoys must comply with the United States Coast Guard (U.S. Aids to Navigation System) requirements and meet or exceed the requirements of Title 33, Code of Federal Regulations. The

Awardee shall adhere to the minimum specifications provided. However, dimensional heights and diameters may vary, except for visibility height above the water line. Refer to the Uniform

Waterway Marker Details for further details.

4.11.2. The Awardee may submit requests to provide alternative but equivalent products that meets or exceeds the specifications provided. City of Tampa Parks and Recreation’s representative must approve the alternative product in writing before the Awardee is awarded the project.

4.11.3. All buoys shall be FWC-approved shallow draft type with a minimum diameter of 9” and extend not less than 36” above the surface of the water.

4.11.4. Awardee to provide Stormsoft or Hazelett Mooring Systems or a pre-approved equivalent. A Jim

Buoy or pre-approved equivalent shall be installed in conjunction with the mooring system to prevent downline from resting on the bottom. Adjust the downline length and underwater float so that the downline does not touch the bottom at low tide.

4.11.5. See “Elastic Buoy Mooring System” detail for information on use of pliovic hose, chafing gear covers, and shackles.

4.11.6. Helical disk embedment anchor system: minimum 5’ in length with at least 4’ embedment through sand or mud into 1’ minimum embedment into rock or hard substrate with at least 500’ of resisting force once installed.

4.11.7. Lettering, symbols and are shown on provided details. In general, lettering shall be black with international orange border and geometric symbols.

4.11.8. Removal: Where buoys are replaced, existing buoys shall be removed and properly disposed of along with their anchor systems and/or associated hardware.
