About this file

This document is a set of plans and specifications for proposed pavement preservation and resurfacing work at Olympic National Park and North Cascades National Park in Washington, prepared by the Western Federal Lands Highway Division under the Federal Highway Administration. The project encompasses multiple work options across Olympic National Park (two phases) and includes Upper Hoh Road resurfacing and Stehekin Valley Road work at North Cascades National Park.

The base project covers 60.59 miles of roadway and parking areas, with three optional work packages: Option X (1.92 miles), Option Y (12.07 miles for Upper Hoh Road), and Option Z (6.92 miles for Stehekin work). Surface treatments include chip seal (Type 1C and Type 2B), micro surfacing (Types 2 and 3), cape seal, asphalt concrete pavement overlays (1 inch and 2 inches), crack sealing and filling, and full-depth patches (Types 1 and 2). The specifications reference the Standard Specifications for Construction of Roads and Bridges on Federal Highway Projects, FP-24. Work is distributed across multiple staging areas throughout the parks, with detailed tabulation sheets, typical sections, and area maps provided for 18 Olympic areas and 3 North Cascades areas. Guardrail installation and removal totaling 625 linear feet is specified for Upper Hoh Road, utilizing MGS Type 2 Class A steel post systems with various terminal configurations. The plans also include standard traffic control, pavement marking, and rumble strip details conforming to federal standards. Project identification numbers are WA NP OLYM PMS(1), WA NP OLYM PMS(2), WA NP NOCA PMS(2), and WA FLAP JEFFER 91420(6).
