About this file

This document is a Request for Information (RFI) Questions and Answers related to the ALTESS Domestic Water System Upgrade project at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. The RFI addresses six key questions from potential contractors, providing detailed clarifications about project specifications and logistics. Key details include valve replacement requirements for Room 119 and Room 241, which involve removing and replacing multiple gate valves, check valves, and ball valves of various sizes (ranging from 1/2" to 2"), installing new water supply lines, and adding valves at multiple connection points.

The document also confirms several operational parameters for the project, including: work can be performed during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 7:00am - 5:00pm), the government will provide a lay-down area inside the building for material storage, and contractors will be allowed to place a dumpster onsite for the duration of the project. The site superintendent is permitted to carry duties of Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) and Quality Control Manager, and site visit pictures will be available upon request. These details are part of a non-personal services contract for upgrading the domestic water system to prevent potential water shutdowns that could impact cooling and heating of the ALTESS data center.

Steel section is approximately six (6’) foot in length and should have unions and valves at both ends to ensure components can be isolated and repaired. All steel sections, supply valves, and components referenced here shall be 2”

- Removal and replacement of Gate Valve “A” and the associated steel union and nipple at the same location. Replace with 2” ball valve

- Add ball valve to one and a half (1-1/2”) inch piping branch that accesses hot water system. New 1.5” ball valve

- There is approximately twelve (12) gate valves and two (2) check valves. PWS is correct that there are twelve (12) shutoff valves and two (2) check valves here. Five (5) shutoff valves are 1.5”, Six (6) shutoff valves are 3/4”, one (1) shutoff valve is 1/2". One (1) check valve is 1.5” and the other check valve is 3/4"

- Remove and replace utility sink and faucet.

- Install new hot water supply to new utility sink from hot water heaters. Supply shall have valves at both ends. Two (2) new 1/2" ball valves

- Installation of valves at both ends of cold-water supply to include adding hose bib on wall beside of sink. Two (2) new 1/2" ball valves

- Remove water line to hose bib behind chillers to include:

- At the takeoff from the main line, install a new valve, close valve, and plug. One (1) 1/2" ball valve

- Install valve to make up water line. One (1) new 1” ball valve

Room 241 Upgrade:

- Install three-fourth (3/4”) inch branch off of new two (2”) inch line to new location for hot water makeup.

- Include valve at two (2”) inch line then regulator and check valve at connection point with union for ease of servicing. One (1) new 3/4" ball valve, one (1) 3/4" regulator, one (1) 3/4" check valve

- Install new two (2”) inch main water supply through new path to avoid crossing over primary electrical distribution. This installation shall also include:

- New supply shall extend from the supply valve at the four (4”) inch line all the way to the point where it can be tied back into the existing two (2”) inch supply for restrooms and cooling tower. New 2” ball valve at the tie in to the 4” main

- Installing of valve at piping join points One (1) 2” valve replacement at tie in above restroom

- Installation of multiple take offs and valves installed on the two (2”) inch main that include one for the hot water make up( two (2) new 3/4" ball valves and pipe), a new supply to the humidifier( two (2) new 1/2" ball valves and pipe, and a stub out for future usage( one

(1) 1/2" ball valves plugged).

- All points to have valves at both ends.
