1.3 SUBMITTALS FOR REVIEW
A. Submit product data under provisions of Section 01300.
B. Shop Drawings: Indicate bar sizes, spacing, locations, and quantities of reinforcing steel and wire fabric, bending and cutting schedules, and supporting and spacing devices.
C. SUBMITTALS FOR INFORMATION
1. Submit product data under provisions of Section 01300.
2. Manufacturer's Certificate: Certify that products meet or exceed specified requirements.
3. Submit certified copies of mill test report of reinforcement materials analysis.
D. DESIGN REQUIREMENTS
1. Design shall comply with the ASCE 7-05 – Wind Loads, and ACI 318-05.
2. Welding of reinforcing steel is not permitted.
E. QUALITY ASSURANCE
1. Perform work in accordance with ACI 301. Maintain one copy of document on site.
2. Design reinforcement under direct supervision of a Professional Structural Engineer experienced in design of this work and licensed in the State of Ohio.
3. Submit under provisions of Section 01400 Manufacturer's Certificates, certifying welders employed on the work, verifying ASW qualification within the previous 12 months.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 REINFORCEMENT
A. Reinforcing Steel: ASTM A615, Grade 60; deformed billet steel bars, unfinished
B. Stirrup and Tie Steel: ASTM A615, Grade 60; deformed billet steel bars, unfinished.
C. Welded Steel Wire Fabric: ASTM A185 Plain Type; in flat sheets and rolls; unfinished.
D. Steel Wire: ASTM A82, plain, cold drawn, steel.
2.2 ACCESSORIES
A. Tie Wire: Minimum 16-gage annealed type or patented system.
B. Chairs, Bolsters, Bar Supports, Spacers: Size and shape for strength and reinforcement support during concrete placement, include load bearing pad on bottom to prevent vapor barrier puncture.
C. Special Chairs, Bolsters, Bar Supports, and Spacers Adjacent to Weather Exposed Concrete Surfaces: Plastic coated steel type; size and shape as required.

2.3 FABRICATION
A. Fabricate concrete reinforcing in accordance with ACI 318.
B. Locate reinforcing splices not shown on plans, at point of minimum stress, and indicate on shop drawings for A/E review.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 PLACEMENT
A. Place support and secure reinforcement against displacement, without deviating from the required position.
B. Do not displace or damage vapor barrier.
C. Accommodate placement of formed openings.
D. Conform to applicable code for concrete cover over reinforcement.
3.2 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 CONCRETE MATERIALS
A. Cement: ASTM C150, Type III - Normal, Portland type.
B. Fine and Coarse Aggregates: ASTM C33.
C. Water: Clean, not detrimental to concrete, potable, in accordance with
ASTM C 94/C 94M.
2.2 ADMIXTURES
A. Air Entrainment: ASTM C260.
B. Chemical: ASTM C494: 1. Water Reducing - Type A; 2. Retarding - Type B; 3. Accelerating -
Type C; 4. Water Reducing and Retarding - Type D; 5. Water Reducing and Accelerating - Type E; 6. Water Reducing, High Range - Type F; 7. Water Reducing, High Range and Retarding - Type G.
C. Fly Ash: ASTM C618, Class F.
2.3 ACCESSORIES
A. Bonding Agent: Polymer resin emulsion, Polyvinyl Acetate, Latex emulsion, two component modified epoxy resin, Non-solvent two component polysulfide epoxy, Mineral filled polysulfide polymer epoxy, Mineral filled polysulfide polymer epoxy resin, Versamid cured epoxy.
B. Non-Shrink Grout: Premixed compound consisting of non-metallic aggregate, cement, water reducing and plasticizing agents; capable of developing minimum compressive strength of 2,400 psi in 48 hours and 7,000 psi in 28 days.
2.4 JOINT DEVICES AND FILLER MATERIALS
A. Joint Filler: ASTM D1751; Asphalt impregnated fiberboard or felt; resiliency recovery of 95% if not compressed more than 50% of original thickness.
B. Construction Joint Devices: Integral galvanized steel; formed to tongue and groove profile, with removable top strip exposing sealant trough, ribbed steel spikes with tongue to fit top screed edge.
C. Sealant and Primer: Type, as specified in Section 07900.
D. Sealant: Cold applied.
2.5 CONCRETE MIX
A. Mix concrete in accordance with ACI 304. Deliver concrete in accordance with ASTM C94.

B. Select proportions for normal weight concrete in accordance with ACI 301 Method 3.
C. Use accelerating admixtures in cold weather only when approved by A/E. Use of admixtures will not relax cold weather placement requirements.
D. Use set retarding admixtures during hot weather only when approved by A/E.
E. Add air-entraining agent to normal weight concrete mix for work exposed to exterior.
2.6 CONCRETE MIXTURES, GENERAL
A. Prepare design mixtures for each type and strength of concrete, proportioned on the basis of laboratory trial mixture or field test data, or both, according to ACI 301.
1. Use a qualified independent testing agency for preparing and reporting proposed mixture designs based on laboratory trial mixtures.
B. Cementitious Materials: Limit percentage, by weight, of cementitious materials other than portland cement in concrete as follows:
1. Fly Ash: 20 percent (max.).
C. Limit water-soluble, chloride-ion content in hardened concrete to 0.06 percent by weight of cement.
D. Admixtures: Use admixtures according to manufacturer's written instructions.
1. Use water-reducing, high-range water-reducing or plasticizing admixture in concrete, as required, for placement and workability.
2. Use water-reducing and retarding admixture when required by high temperatures, low humidity, or other adverse placement conditions.
3. Use water-reducing admixture in pumped concrete and concrete with a water-cementitious materials ratio below 0.50.
2.7 CONCRETE MIXTURES FOR BUILDING ELEMENTS
A. Footings: Proportion normal-weight concrete mixture as follows
1. Minimum Compressive Strength: 4000 psi at 28 days.
2. Maximum Water-Cementitious Materials Ratio: 0.50.
3. Slump Limit: 4 inches, plus or minus 1 inch.
B. Slabs-on-Grade: Proportion normal-weight concrete mixture as follows
1. Minimum Compressive Strength: 4000 psi at 28 days.
2. Maximum Water-Cementitious Materials Ratio: 0.50.
3. Slump Limit: 4 inches, plus or minus 1 inch.
4. Air Content: Do not allow air content of troweled finished floors to exceed 3percent.
C. Elevated Slabs: Proportion normal-weight concrete mixture as follows

1. Minimum Compressive Strength: 4000 psi at 28 days.
2. Maximum Water-Cementitious Materials Ratio: 0.50.
3. Slump Limit: 4 inches, plus or minus 1 inch.
4. Air Content: Do not allow air content of troweled finished floors to exceed 3-percent.
2.8 CONCRETE MIXING
A. Ready-Mixed Concrete: Measure, batch, mix, and deliver concrete according to ASTM C 94/C 94M, and furnish batch ticket information.
1. When air temperature is between 85 and 90 deg F, reduce mixing and delivery time from 1- 1/2 hours to 75 minutes; when air temperature is above 90 deg F, reduce mixing and delivery time to 60 minutes.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Verify site conditions under provisions of Section 01039.
B. Verify requirements for concrete cover over reinforcement.
C. Verify that anchors, seats, plates, reinforcement and other items to be cast into concrete are accurately placed, positioned securely, and will not cause hardship in placing concrete.
3.2 PREPARATION
A. Prepare previously placed concrete by cleaning with steel brush and applying bonding agent in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
B. Coordinate the placement of joint devices with erection of concrete formwork and placement of form accessories.
C. Remove all foreign matter and water from forms or structural excavations.
3.3 FORMWORK
A. Conform to ACI 347.
B. Foundations shall be formed. Earth forms not allowed.
3.4 PLACING CONCRETE
A. Place concrete in accordance with ACI 301.
B. Notify A/E minimum 24 hours prior to commencement of operations.
C. Ensure reinforcement, inserts, embedded parts, formed expansion and contraction joints are not disturbed during concrete placement.

D. Install 15 mil vapor barrier under interior slabs on grade. Lap joints minimum six (6) inches and seal watertight by taping edges and ends.
E. Repair vapor barrier damaged during placement of concrete reinforcing. Repair with vapor barrier material; lay over damaged areas minimum six (6) inches and seal watertight. Place, protect, and repair in accordance with ASTM E 1643 and manufacturer’s instructions.
F. Separate slabs on grade from vertical surfaces with joint filler.
G. Place joint filler in floor slab pattern placement sequence. Secure to resist movement by wet concrete.
H. Extend joint filler from bottom of slab to within ¼" of finished slab surface. Conform to Section
07900 for finish joint sealer requirements.
I. Install joint devices in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
J. Install construction joint devices in coordination with floor slab pattern placement sequence. Set top to required elevations. Secure to resist movement by wet concrete.
K. Maintain records of concrete placement. Record date, location, quantity, air temperature, and test samples taken.
L. Place concrete continuously between predetermined expansion, control, and construction joints.
M. Do not interrupt successive placement; do not permit cold joints to occur.
N. Saw cut joints within 24 hours after placing. Use 3/16" thick blade, cut into ¼ depth of slab thickness.
O. Screed floors and slabs on grade level, maintaining surface flatness of maximum ⅛" in 10'.
3.5 CONCRETE FINISHING
A. Provide formed concrete surfaces to be left exposed.
B. Finish concrete floor surfaces in accordance with Section 03346.
3.6 MISCELLANEOUS CONCRETE ITEMS
A. Filling In: Fill in holes and openings left in concrete structures, unless otherwise indicated, after work of other trades is in place. Mix, place, and cure concrete, as specified, to blend with in-place construction. Provide other miscellaneous concrete filling indicated or required to complete Work.
B. Curbs: Provide monolithic finish to curbs by stripping forms while concrete is still green and by steel-troweling surfaces to a hard, dense finish with corners, intersections, and terminations slightly rounded.
C. Equipment Bases and Foundations: Provide machine and equipment bases and foundations as shown on Drawings. Set anchor bolts for machines and equipment at correct elevations, complying with diagrams or templates of manufacturer furnishing machines and equipment.

D. Steel Pan Stairs: Provide concrete fill for steel pan stair treads, landings, and associated items.
Cast-in inserts and accessories as shown on Drawings. Screed, tamp, and trowel-finish concrete surfaces.
3.7 CONCRETE PROTECTION AND CURING
A. General: Protect freshly placed concrete from premature drying and excessive cold or hot temperatures. Comply with ACI 306.1 for cold-weather protection and with recommendations in ACI 305R for hot-weather protection during curing.
B. Evaporation Retarder: Apply evaporation retarder to unformed concrete surfaces if hot, dry, or windy conditions cause moisture loss approaching 0.2-lb/sq. ft. x h before and during finishing operations. Apply according to manufacturer's written instructions after placing, screeding, and bull floating or darbying concrete, but before float finishing.
C. Formed Surfaces: Cure formed concrete surfaces, including underside of beams, supported slabs, and other similar surfaces. If forms remain during curing period, moist cure after loosening forms. If removing forms before end of curing period, continue curing by one or a combination of the following methods:
D. Unformed Surfaces: Begin curing immediately after finishing concrete. Cure unformed surfaces, including floors and slabs, concrete floor toppings, and other surfaces, by one or a combination of the following methods:
1. Moisture Curing: Keep surfaces continuously moist for not less than seven days with the following materials:
a. Water.
b. Continuous water fog spray.
c. Absorptive cover, water saturated, and kept continuously wet. Cover concrete surfaces and edges with 12-inch lap over adjacent absorptive covers.
2. Moisture Retaining Cover Curing: Cover concrete surfaces with moisture retaining cover for curing concrete, placed in widest practicable width, with sides and ends lapped at least 12 inches, and sealed by waterproof tape or adhesive. Cure for not less than seven days.
Immediately repair any holes or tears during curing period using cover material and waterproof tape.
a. Moisture cure or use moisture-retaining covers to cure concrete surfaces to receive floor coverings.
b. Moisture cure or use moisture-retaining covers to cure concrete surfaces to receive penetrating liquid floor treatments.
c. Cure concrete surfaces to receive floor coverings with either a moisture-retaining cover or a curing compound that the manufacturer recommends for use with floor coverings.
3. Curing Compound: Apply uniformly in continuous operation by power spray or roller according to manufacturer's written instructions. Recoat areas subjected to heavy rainfall within three hours after initial application. Maintain continuity of coating and repair damage during curing period.

4. Curing and Sealing Compound: Apply uniformly to floors and slabs indicated on the finish schedule (shown on the drawings and noted as “sealed concrete”), exterior walkway suspended slabs, and stairs in a continuous operation by power spray or roller according to manufacturer's written instructions. Recoat areas subjected to heavy rainfall within three hours after initial application. Repeat process 24 hours later and apply a second coat. Maintain continuity of coating and repair damage during curing period.
3.8 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Section 01400 - Quality Assurance: Field inspection, testing, adjusting, and balancing.
B. Provide free access to Work and cooperate with appointed firm.
C. Tests of cement and aggregates may be performed to ensure conformance with specified requirements.
D. Concrete Tests: Testing of composite samples of fresh concrete obtained according to ASTM C 172 shall be performed.
1. Testing Frequency: Obtain one composite sample for each day’s pour of each concrete mix exceeding 5 cubic yards, plus one set or each additional 50 cubic yards or less.
2. Slump: ASTM C 143/C 143M; one test at point of placement for each composite sample, but not less than one test for each day's pour of each concrete mixture. Perform additional tests when concrete consistency appears to change.
3. Air Content: ASTM C 231, pressure method, for normal-weight concrete; one test for each composite sample, but not less than one test for each day's pour of each concrete mixture.
4. Concrete Temperature: ASTM C 1064/C 1064M; one test hourly when air temperature is 40 deg F and below and when 80 deg F and above, and one test for each composite sample.
5. Compression Test Specimens: ASTM C 31/C 31M.
a. Cast and laboratory cure four standard cylinder specimens for each composite sample.
b. One additional test cylinder shall be taken during cold weather concreting, cured on the job site under the same conditions as the concrete it represents.
6. Compressive-Strength Tests: ASTM C 39/C 39M; test one specimen at 7 days, one set of two specimens at 28 days, and retain one specimen in reserve for later testing if required.
a. A compressive strength test shall be the average compressive strength from a set of two specimens obtained from same composite sample and tested at age indicated.
7. Strength of each concrete mixture will be satisfactory if every average of any three consecutive compressive-strength tests equals or exceeds specified compressive strength and no compressive-strength test value falls below specified compressive strength by more than 500 psi.
8. Test results shall be reported in writing to Architect/Engineer, concrete manufacturer, and Contractor within 48 hours of testing. Reports of compressive-strength tests shall contain Project identification name and number, date of concrete placement, name of concrete testing and inspecting agency, location of concrete batch in Work, design compressive strength at 28 days, concrete mixture proportions and materials, compressive breaking strength, and type of break for both 7- and 28-day tests.

9. Nondestructive Testing: Impact hammer, sonoscope, or other nondestructive device may be permitted by Architect/Engineer but will not be used as sole basis for approval or rejection of concrete.
10. Additional Tests: Testing and inspecting agency shall make additional tests of concrete when test results indicate that slump, air entrainment, compressive strengths, or other requirements have not been met, as directed by Architect/Engineer. Testing and inspecting agency may conduct tests to determine adequacy of concrete by cored cylinders complying with ASTM C 42/C 42M or by other methods as directed by Architect.
11. Additional testing and inspecting, at Contractor's expense, will be performed to determine compliance of replaced or additional work with specified requirements.
12. Correct deficiencies in the Work that test reports and inspections indicate does not comply with the Contract Documents.
E. Measure floor and slab flatness and levelness according to ASTM E 1155 within 24 hours of finishing.
3.9 PATCHING
A. Allow A/E to inspect concrete surfaces immediately upon removal of forms.
B. Excessive honeycomb or embedded debris in concrete is not acceptable. Notify A/E upon discovery.
C. Patch imperfections in accordance with ACI 301.
3.10 DEFECTIVE CONCRETE
A. Defective Concrete: Concrete not conforming to required lines, details, dimensions, tolerances or specified requirements.
B. A/E shall determine the repair or replacement of defective concrete.

C. Polished Concrete Floor System: IPCI Sheen Level 2 – Low Sheen.
1. Preparation Step:
a. Remove existing floor coatings and level floor by grinding with 80-grit metal-bonded diamonds.
2. Apply concrete densifier to deeply saturate floor.
3. Remove residue of concrete densifier dried on floor surface by grinding with 150-grit metal-bonded diamonds.
4. Floor Closure Polishing:
a. Remove 150-grit metal-bonded diamond scratches by grinding with 100-grit resin-bonded diamonds.
b. Remove 150-grit metal-bonded and 100-grit resin-bonded diamond scratches by grinding with 200-grit resin-bonded diamonds.

1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Special Inspections for this project shall be as required by the Statement of Special Inspections for Masonry Construction, located at the End of Section, and as defined below.
1. Periodic Special Inspections: Part-time or intermittent observation of work requiring inspection by an approved special inspector who is present in the area where the work has been or is being performed and at the completion of the work.
2. Continuous Special Inspections: Inspections as required of the materials, installation, fabrication, erection or placement of components and connections requiring expertise to ensure compliance with approved construction documents and referenced standards.
3. Report Requirements:
a. Special Inspectors shall keep records of inspections. The Special Inspector shall furnish inspection reports to the Contracting Officer.
b. Reports shall indicate that work inspected was done in conformance to approved construction documents. Nonconformances shall be brought to the immediate attention of the Contractor for correction.
c. A final report of inspections documenting required special inspections and correction of nonconformances noted in the inspections shall be submitted at the conclusion of the Work.
B. Source Limitations for Masonry Units: Obtain exposed masonry units of a uniform texture and color, or a uniform blend within the ranges accepted for these characteristics, from single source from single manufacturer for each product required.
C. Source Limitations for Mortar Materials: Obtain mortar ingredients of a uniform quality, including color for exposed masonry, from one manufacturer for each cementitious component and from one source or producer for each aggregate.

1. Note: Masonry Cement is not allowed on this project.
D. Masonry Standard: Comply with ACI 530.1/ASCE 6/TMS 602 unless modified by requirements in the Contract Documents.
E. Mockup: Prior to installing unit masonry, construct sample wall panels to verify selections made under sample submittals and to demonstrate aesthetic effects as well as other qualities of materials and execution. Build mockups to comply with the following requirements, using materials indicated for final unit of Work.
1. Locate mockups on site in the locations indicated or, if not indicated, as directed by Contracting Officer.
2. Build three individual mockups for face brick and decorative CMU in sizes approximately 48 inches long by 48 inches high by full thickness, and as follows:
a. Each mockup shall be constructed with a different selection of face brick and mortar, and decorative CMU and mortar. A total of six mockup samples will be required.
b. Each mockup shall establish color and range of mortar, face brick, and decorative
CMU.
c. Each mockup shall be cleaned with manufacturer’s recommended masonry cleaner. Mockups will not be reviewed for final approval and selection until proper cleaning has been completed.
d. The Contracting Officer will select from the sample mockups as the basis for the typical wall mockup described below.
3. Build independent, freestanding mockup of typical face brick construction as detailed on the drawings. Mockup wall shall be a composite representation of the actual design for the purpose of evaluating the quality, workmanship, and intersection of the various facing materials. Construct the mockup as follows:
a. Typical wall construction shall include final approved face brick, typical aluminum window, mortar, masonry backup, cold-formed metal support framing, sheathing, weather-resistive barrier, through-wall flashing, including end dams, metal drip edges, and termination bars, masonry ties, steel lintel, weep holes, bond breaker strips, vertical expansion joint, and joint sealant.
b. Provide flexible flashing at window opening and demonstrate flashing requirements specified in related specification Sections.
c. The typical wall construction mockup shall be a minimum of 12 feet long 90-degree corner section, with one leg 8 feet long and the other 4 feet long, by 10 feet high.
Provide vertical expansion joint at 1 foot from corner. Provide typical window opening, header, and sill construction as detailed.
d. Demonstrate grouting of CMU backup in accordance with the specifications.
e. Test weep system in the cavity wall to insure that it functions as intended. Make adjustments to weep system as necessary and implement into the permanent walls.
4. Notify Contracting Officer one week in advance of the dates and times when mockups will be constructed.
5. Protect accepted mockups from the elements with weather-resistant membrane.
6. Retain and maintain mockups during construction in an undisturbed condition as a standard for judging the completed Work.
7. Approval of mockups is for color, texture, and blending of masonry units; relationship of mortar and sealant colors to masonry unit colors; tooling of joints; and aesthetic qualities of workmanship.

a. Approval of mockups is also for other material and construction qualities specifically approved by Contracting Officer in writing.

8. Demolish and remove mockups when directed.
F. Preinstallation Conference: Conduct conference at Project site to comply with requirements in Division 1 Section "Project Management and Coordination."
1.5 PROJECT CONDITIONS
A. Protection of Masonry: During construction, cover tops of walls, projections, and sills with waterproof sheeting at end of each day's work. Cover partially completed masonry when construction is not in progress.
1. Extend cover a minimum of 24 inches down both sides of walls and hold cover securely in place.
2. Where one wythe of multiwythe masonry walls is completed in advance of other wythes, secure cover a minimum of 24 inches down face next to unconstructed wythe and hold cover in place.
B. Stain Prevention: Prevent grout, mortar, and soil from staining the face of masonry to be left exposed or painted. Immediately remove grout, mortar, and soil that come in contact with such masonry.
1. Protect base of walls from rain-splashed mud and from mortar splatter by spreading coverings on ground and over wall surface.
2. Protect sills, ledges, and projections from mortar droppings.
3. Protect surfaces of window and door frames, as well as similar products with painted and integral finishes, from mortar droppings.
C. Cold-Weather Requirements: Do not use frozen materials or materials mixed or coated with ice or frost. Do not build on frozen substrates. Remove and replace unit masonry damaged by frost or by freezing conditions. Comply with cold-weather construction requirements contained in ACI 530.1/ASCE 6/TMS 602.
D. Hot-Weather Requirements: Comply with hot-weather construction requirements contained in
ACI 530.1/ASCE 6/TMS 602.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 MASONRY UNITS, GENERAL
A. Defective Units: Referenced masonry unit standards may allow a certain percentage of units to contain chips, cracks, or other defects exceeding limits stated in the standard. Do not use units where such defects will be exposed in the completed Work.

B. Fire-Resistance Ratings: Where indicated, provide units that comply with requirements for fire-resistance ratings indicated as determined by testing according to ASTM E 119, by equivalent masonry thickness, or by other means, as acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction.
2.2 CONCRETE MASONRY UNITS
A. Regional Materials: Provide CMUs that have been manufactured within 500 miles of Project site from aggregates and cement that have been extracted, harvested, or recovered, as well as manufactured, within 500 miles of Project site.
B. Shapes: Provide shapes indicated and for lintels, corners, jambs, sashes, movement joints, headers, bonding, and other special conditions.
1. Provide bullnose units for outside corners in exposed areas, except first course above concrete slab where resilient wall base is scheduled.
C. CMUs: ASTM C 90.
1. Unit Compressive Strength: Provide units with minimum average net-area compressive strength of 1900-psi, minimum.

3. Fine Aggregates: Manufactured or natural sands complying with ASTM C 33, gradation as needed to produce required textures.
4. Air-Entraining Admixture: ASTM C 260, certified by the manufacturer to be compatible with other admixtures used.
