CENTRAL CHILLED WATER PLANT

CHW/CW GPM Efficiency

The building’s central HVAC system consists of a two-pipe constant volume hot water/chilled water loop (HW/CHW) circulating conditioned water to a combination of ninety-five fan powered VAV boxes (reheat only); six air handling units (AHUs), three of which are VAV; and four fan coil units (FCUs). The three VAV AHUs are equipped with VFDs. The exterior duct wrap insulation is coming loose on these units and the overall condition of this equipment is fair at best. The two AHUs serving the drill hall and kitchen are constant volume units, with the kitchen unit providing the make-up air for the kitchen hood. The drill hall AHU is manufactured by McQuay and has very noisy bearings.

Also constant volume is the 1st Floor storage area AHU, which is equipped with HW heat (control valve removed) but obtains its cooling from a Trane TTA150 12-ton condensing unit rather than the chiller. The condensing coil on this Trane unit is clogged with dirt/mud from the nearby hillside.

The loop HW/CHW loop pumps are constant volume Taco 25 HP units rated at 554 GPM each.
