If a complete contamination of moss and mold exists, Contractor shall remove it as described in item 3.02. Work shall be performed without causing marks and scratches on the surface. The Contractor shall prevent dust and other contaminants from falling on wet, newly painted surfaces. Nails, tacks, "fisher" style anchor bolts, screws or similar wall fasteners shall be removed from wall surfaces that will be painted. All scratches and holes shall be repaired using suitable plaster patch compound and sanded to a smooth finish. Areas missing plaster shall be restored with new plaster.

Surfaces that contain loose rust or other foreign substances shall be mechanically cleaned.
c. Wood Surfaces. Wood surfaces to be painted shall be cleaned of dirt, oil, or foreign substances with mineral spirits, scrapers, and/or sand paper. Finished surfaces exposed to view shall, if necessary, be made smooth by sandpapering. All millwork required to be painted shall be sanded where necessary and suitably prime on all sides, before installation. Small, dry or seasoned knots shall be scraped on the surface and cleaned completely. The Contractor shall then apply a light coat of an approved filler before applying the protective coat.
3.02 FIRST COAT OF MOLD PROOFING PAINTING.
Sizable, as determined by the COR, mold covered parts, must be removed with brushes or scrapers. Apply the disinfectant, thinned as specified in the product specifications, by brush on all surfaces, also on those apparently not contaminated but that could be contaminated by mold. Clean with sponge after at least 24 hours to remove the loosened mold parts and let dry. Repair and plaster walls where needed and let dry at least 48 hours. Apply one coat of acrylic primer and let dry for 4-8 hours then apply one coat of special anti-mould paint and one finish cover of interior/exterior paint.
3-03 PAINT APPLICATION.
a. General. Paint could be applied by brush or roller, excluded where after specified. Paint should not show any sign of deterioration. Uniform suspension of pigments shall be maintained during application. Painting will be performed so that the finished surfaces shall be free from runs, drops, ridges, waves, laps, brush marks, and variation in color, texture and finish.
Rollers for applying paints and enamels shall be of a type designed for the coating to be applied and the surface to be painted.
Two coats of paint will be applied so the hiding shall be complete, and each coat shall be so applied as to produce film of uniform thickness. Special attention shall be given to insure that all surface including edges and corners receive a film thickness equivalent to that of adjacent painted surfaces.
b. Coating Progress. Sufficient time shall elapse between successive coats as specified in the product specifications. This period shall be modified as necessary to suit adverse weather conditions. Oil base or oleoresinous solvent-type paints shall be considered dry for recoating when paint is firm, does not deform, is sticky under a moderate pressure of the thumb, and the application of another coat of paint does not cause lifting or loss of adhesion of the undercoat.
c. Paint Properties, Mixing and Thinning. All paint, when applied, shall provide a satisfactory film with smooth, even surface. Paint shall be thoroughly stirred, strained, and kept at a uniform consistency during application. Different brand names of emulsion paints shall not be mixed prior to application of the material. Where necessary to suit conditions of surface, temperature, weather, and method of application, the paint may be thinned immediately prior to application, in accordance with the manufacturer's directions but not in excess of 125 cc. of suitable thinner per liter. Emulsion type paint shall be mixed in accordance with the manufacturer's directions.
d. Method of Paint Application. The first coat of paint on all exterior surfaces shall be applied by brush. Interior prime coat may be applied by brush or roller. The following coats will be applied by brush, or roller on exterior and interior surfaces.
The color of undercoats shall vary slightly from the color of the next coat. Rollers for applying enamel shall have short nap.
Brushes used for the application of water emulsion paints shall be soaked in water for a period of two hours minimum prior to application.
e. Ferrous Metal Prime Coat. The specified prime coat of paint shall be applied by brush. Paint shall be applied in dry and dust-free conditions. Painting shall be done in a workmanlike manner so as to produce an even film of uniform thickness.
