CHAPTER II
TECHNICAL PROVISIONS
SECTION 1
PRELIMINARY WORK AND DISMOUNTING
TP-1-01: PREPARATION AND PROTECTION OF THE WORK SITE
According to the ENs, to comply with in matters of safety and health, the contractor shall fence the work site, install scaffolding, and shall take all precautions to protect his personnel, and the personnel and users of the building. The work site area shall be completely protected by a rigid fence (to be submitted to the COR’s approval) to prohibit access to unauthorized people.
The contractor shall install a double plastic protection over the air handling units in order to prevent dust from spreading in the building during the work.
TP-1-02: DISMOUNTING
Dismounted items mentioned below include the removal and evacuation out of the military area of all debris resulting from the work. All debris will be evacuated to an authorized public dump at the contractor’s expense. All dismounted items become the property of the contractor, unless otherwise specified in these specifications.
Any damage caused by the contractor’s personnel during the demolition work will be repaired at his cost.
Following items are given as an indication. This list is not limitative. The contractor will carry out all required investigations to complete it if necessary.
Removal of all zinc finish profiles (edge profiles, finish profiles of concrete cornices, chimney fillets, masonry fillets, etc.)
Lightning rods and cables (grounding) shall be carefully dismounted and stored during performance, and shall be reinstalled after the roof repair is completed Dismounting of zinc or PVC/PEHD water downspouts, shoes, fasteners, etc.
Dismounting of zinc wall linings on parapet walls, and preparation/repair of the top part of these walls in order to receive the new wall lining.
Dismounting of concrete slab at ground level, sidewalk or else, at the location where the shoe connects to the existing drainage system.
The concrete slab or sidewalk will be cut properly, with minimum damage. The contractor will not damage the collector drainage. If, during the dismounting, the contractor damages the pipes, he will replace it at his own cost.
Dismounting of lighting above the annexes roof (7 each) and electrical cables until the electrical panel. The supports are included.
Dismounting a metal pole around the chimney.
TP-1-03: REMOVAL OF OLD WATERTIGHT LAYER AND INSULATION
This item includes the complete removal of the watertight layer and its insulation (foam glass).
The removal of the existing roof overlay will be performed manually or with a machine, at the contractor’s choice. If the genuine watertight layer in bitumen is still present, the contractor has to remove it in order to achieve a perfectly clean support free of any product that could hinder the good execution of the new insulation, its adherence or the stability of the insulating material. As the cohesion of the slope concrete is rather small, it is possible that some parts get loose when removing the insulating material. The contractor will remove all loose elements and will evacuate them out of the military area.
Precautions: During the removal of the watertight layer, the contractor has to disconnect the water downspouts in order not to clog the existing piping.
SECTION 2
ROOF RENOVATION
The renovation of the roof of the North and South hangar # 2 annexes consists of removing the old membrane and cellular glass.
The support will then be cleaned and repaired at the damaged location before putting the new watertight layer (vapor barrier, insulation, sublayer and watertight layer).
The concrete beams, raised part along the wall of hangar # 2 up to the translucent panels, and the raised part of the parapet wall must be covered with the new watertight layer (vapor barrier, insulation, sublayer and watertight layer).
TP-2-01: SUBSTRATE
At the locations where the watertight layer has been removed, the contractor shall make sure that the concrete support is in good condition. If necessary, local repairs will be carried out, removing loose concrete parts, filling up holes and cracks with rich mortar mixed with a curing compound (type Compactuna or equal). Before applying new mortar at critical locations, a curing compound (type Compactuna or equal) will be applied. Then, an adherence varnish will be applied on the previously cleaned and dry substrate (See item TP-2-02).
TP-2-02: VAPOR BARRIER
Before installing the vapor barrier, the concrete support will be impregnated with a bituminous adherence varnish (type Aquadere or equal).
The self-adhesive membrane, (type Soprarock SBS - Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene P3 TF or equal) shall be composed of polymer bitumen and a composite polyester reinforcement. The surface shall be covered with a thermofuse finish. The undercover shall be shall be covered with a chalk/sand mixture.
Rolls shall be aligned and unfolded on the support with an overlap of 10cm and then folded back again. The roll shall be immediately unfolded and pressed in the bitumen.
Bitumen membrane shall be reinforced with a 3mm thick glass membrane.
A) Bitumen Technical characteristics:
Thickness: 3mm Width: 1m Length: 10m Weight: 3.6kg/m2 Tensile strength: min. 440N/50mm Breaking elongation: min 40% Incipient tear strength: min 100N Cold flexibility:-15ºC Point of softening: 100ºC
The technical solution shall be submitted for approval to the COR within thirty (30) days after contract award date.
TP-2-03: INSULATION

The minimum thickness of insulation panels shall be 1/3 of the corrugation width of the steel plate. When the corrugation width is larger than 100 mm care should be taken so that the insulation board edges are fully supported. The boards are installed staggered and with closed joints. The waterproofing is applied directly after the installation of the insulation. The boards are mechanically fixed to the steel deck. The amount of fastenings shall be defined according to their quality, the wind load and the thickness of the steel board, with a minimum of 6 fastenings per board in the central roof area and a minimum of 8 per board in the edge zone and in the corners of the roof. Fixation on the roof edge shall be provided. The mechanical fixations to be used shall meet the requirements in compliance with the UEAtc-class II and shall have a minimum diameter of 4.8mm. On the insulation boards, a perforated bituminous layer (15% perforations) suitable for using hot bitumen is applied. The insulation boards are fully bonded to the waterproofing membrane with hot bitumen.
The necessity of a vapor control layer shall be determined by a calculation or by the Technical Information Notice 215 “Flat Roof” from the CSTC (Centre Scientifique et Technique de la Construction). The specific guidelines in this note are applicable.
The technical solution shall be submitted for approval to the COR within thirty (30) days after contract award date.

B) Welding of membrane Rolls are aligned on the support with an overlapping of 10cm between each other, and folded back. Unroll the watertightness membrane, heating up its lower side to flux it; have the membrane adhere to the support. The overlapping must always be welded with a flame over their entire width of 10cm; edges are then pressed with a ±15kg roller. Transversal overlappings are 15cm. A small quantity of bitumen must flow off the overlapping joint. The bitumen cord may be beveled with the tip of the heated trowel.
C) Raised parts Raised parts shall be totally adhered by flame welding. Raised water tightness coverings shall be distinct from those applied horizontally, with which they connect at the basis of the 10cm minimum overlappings welded with a flame. The angle of the raised part must always have two thicknesses. The edges shall be laid in maximum width corresponding to the width of the rolls with an overlapping of 10cm.
