CONTRACTOR INQUIRIES

By this Amendment 0004, the Chicago District, USACE provides its responses to contractor inquiries, continuing from Amendments 0001 and 0002:

Q84. Please reference Detail A1 on drawing SS300. The grating 1” x 1/8” Galv 19-W-4, sets on top of the top flange of the main girders of the walkway. The gusset plates that connect the horizontal bracing bolts through the top flange. How are we to address the interference between the head of the bolts and the grating?

USACE answer Q84: There are several options available to address this issue, which shall be handled through post-award engineering changes: (a) welding angles to compression flange of beam; (b) using countersink bolts –– contractor would need to order counter sink structural bolts vs. standard structural bolts; (c) use a bent plate to attach angles to web rather than attaching angles directly to top flange.
