1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE
1.3.1 General Requirements
1.3.1.1 Materials, Equipment and Installation
Furnish new and unused materials and equipment except for equipment specified for reuse herein; replace or repair any defective material or equipment damaged in the course of installation. Perform testing to check the installation of and the proper operational functions of the accessory electrical equipment. Equipment must meet all applicable NEMA and UL construction and rating requirements. No equivalent will be acceptable.
Immediately notify the Contracting Officer of any requirements of the specifications or Contractor proposed materials or assemblies that do not comply with UL or NEMA. International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) rated equipment will not be considered an acceptable alternative to specified NEMA ratings, except as approved. The installations must be in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70 , and the National Electrical Safety Code, IEEE C2 , except where otherwise specifically shown or specified, in which case the drawings and specifications will govern.
Omission of details on the drawings or in the specifications must not be construed as permitting deviations from Code requirements. Terminate all exterior electrical connections as well as those with dissimilar metals using appropriate voltage rated anti-oxidant compound. Install all electrical connections using calibrated torque wrench following either the manufacturer's recommendations or general guidance in NFPA 70 or NETA ATS.
1.3.1.2 Standard Products
Material and equipment must be the standard products of manufacturers regularly engaged in the manufacture of these products and must essentially duplicate items that have been in satisfactory use for at least 2 years prior to bid opening.
1.3.1.3 Corrosion Prevention
Protect equipment to prevent deterioration from corrosion. The general requirements are specified below; however, other corrosion-resisting treatments that are the equivalent of those specified may be used.
a. Fastenings and Fittings . Ensure screws, bolts, nuts, pins, studs, springs, washers and other miscellaneous fastening and fittings are of corrosion-resistant material and are treated in an approved manner to render them resistant to corrosion. Fastenings exposed directly to the weather must be of corrosion-resisting material.
b. Corrosion-Resisting Materials . Corrosion-resisting steel, copper, brass, bronze, copper-nickel-copper alloys are acceptable corrosion-resisting materials.
c. Corrosion-Resisting Treatments . Treatments must be in accordance with ASTM A123/A123M or ASTM A153/A153M .
d. Finish . Final painting must be done in accordance with paragraph
"PAINTING."
SECTION 26 00 00.00 26 Page 11
1.3.1.4 Storage and Handling
Suitably protect materials and equipment from dampness, dust and physical damage, and store in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
1.4 CONTRACT DRAWINGS
1.4.1 General
The contract drawings indicate the work to be accomplished in as much detail as is practical. They constitute the working drawings for construction and for purchase of required materials. The contract drawings are not intended to dictate the actual design but only to indicate:
a. The limitations of space in which the transformers, associated equipment and appurtenances are to be installed.
b. The arrangement and functions of the connections and associated equipment for the new transformers and existing protective relays.
c. The powerhouse and switchyard general layouts, pertinent features and of the existing equipment installations with their general details as associated with this work.
Field verify all existing dimensions, details, and features relevant to requirements for equipment, apparatus, and other powerhouse and switchyard coordinating features required for the design, manufacture, and installation of the new transformers and accessories. If the contractor finds variations that significantly impacts contractors design, notify the COR immediately.
1.4.2 Departure From Drawings
If departures from the contract drawings are necessary, submit details of such departures and reasons for them not later than 90 days before scheduled installation date. Make no such departures without prior written approval. The control schemes shown on the contract drawings are not intended to exclude the Contractor's method for accomplishing the functions indicated. However, if any alternate equipment is approved, the Contractor will bear the cost and be responsible for furnishing and installing any additional wiring devices that are required.
1.4.3 Drawing Index
Submit shop drawings for each GSU transformer to provide complete installation details. Include a comprehensive index of shop drawings for each GSU transformer drawing set. The index must be part of the accompanying drawing set, having a title block, border, and sheet number compatible with the drawing set.
1.4.4 Bill of Materials
Submit a comprehensive bill of materials (schedule of equipment) for each GSU transformer installation shop drawing set. Schedule must be part of the drawing set, having a title block, border, and sheet number compatible with the drawing set. Schedule will provide a cross reference between manufacturer data and shop drawings, regardless of whether the product data is submitted at the same time as the shop drawing set. Schedule will include the total quantity, manufacturer, part number, and location of each item of equipment supplied.
SECTION 26 00 00.00 26 Page 12
1.4.5 Interconnecting Diagrams
Submit drawings showing interconnections between devices internal to panels and equipment enclosures, and between equipment assemblies and external interfaces. Terminal board connections, wire designations, and size and type of wire must be indicated on wiring diagrams.
1.4.6 Conduit and Cable Schedule
A cable and conduit schedule has been provided, which is based on the known requirements to remove the existing equipment and for the new equipment with estimated lengths to be used for bidding purposes.
Additional cables may be required due to the Contractor's equipment selection. Submit a comprehensive schedule of cable and conduit. Schedule shall appropriately cross reference with schematic drawings. Schedule shall have a title block and border.
1.4.7 Transformer Equipment Installation Details
Submit details showing the arrangement and location of the transformer equipment with weights, detail dimensions and complete mounting details.
1.4.8 Conduit Routing Drawings
