KYL Downstream Lock Excavation Industry Day Questions and Comments

1. Q - The Lockmaster stated that some of the large pieces of equipment being moved from the existing maintenance building to the new one need to be removed and installed in 1 day in order to minimize the time that equipment is offline. This needs to be stated in the specs.

2. Q - The old bridge piers and abutment exposed in the downstream riprap slope need to be shown in the drawings and whether they are to be removed in this contract.

A – This information will be added to the Plans.

3. Q - Recommend that rock pinnacle excavation be a separate CLIN in the bid schedule.

A – A new CLIN is being added for rock pinnacle excavation.

4. Q - Clarify in the specs and drawings how pipe supports being installed in the SDU contract and existing handrails could be constraints on placement of the large crane on the lock wall.

A – Additional information regarding constraints will be added to the Plans and Specifications.

5. Q - Need more information on existing bridges to be demolished. At a minimum, it should include demolition comps as fyi only. And make sure we have appropriate reference drawings in the Plans.

6. A – Additional information on the existing bridges will be added to the P&S.

7. Q- We need more clarity on providing personnel access along top of existing landwall.

A - This clarity will be added in Section 01 00 00 of the Specifications.

8. Q- Need to add what information is available on the grading plan where the shop addition will be demolished in the SDU contract.

A- An anticipated description of this grading plan will be described in the P&S.

9. Q- Need to add SDU contract pipe support sketches into the reference drawings when they become available from the SDU contractor.

A – These sketches will be added when they are obtained from the contractor installing them.

10. Q - Need to clarify if the land wall check post, that is removed in order to install the stop log slot, will need to be replaced.

A – There are no plans to replace this check post after its removal.

11. Q - Need to provide detail on the plans regarding relocating the handrail next to the new stop log slots.

A – The handrail will need to be relocated. Additional details will be added to the Plans.

12. Q - During the information meeting, a contractor asked if there could be a situation where an option is awarded, but the area of work related to that option is not yet available.

A – This is possible and would not be that different from the whole contract being funded with delayed notice to proceed for certain activities or just the required sequence of work not allowing work to proceed until predecessor activities have been completed.
