RTI Fiber Optic Cabling Installation/W912L8-24-Q-0053 Contact: Juan H. Arevalo EMAIL: juan.h.arevalojimenez.civ@army.mil Phone Number: 304-473-5226 Q&A Revised: September 5th , 2024 Questions and Answers

1. Can gel-filled fiber optic cable be replaced with gel-free (Corning) type? (Both are designed to block water penetration but gel-free is easier to maintain.)

Yes, dry water block is acceptable.

2. Is water or mud likely to be present in handholes and manholes?

Manholes have minimal mud and water.

3. Do you require extra fiber loops in handholes, manholes, or termination points? If so, how long?

Fiber loops are not required in the manholes. Cable must be routed around the perimeter and properly secured to racking or walls in the manholes. Fiber loops are required at all splice locations within the buildings. Each loop is to be approximately 25’.

4. Will visible light source and OTDR at typical wavelengths be sufficient for cable testing? For OTDR, will it be one-way or two-way testing?

VLS and two-way OTDR testing is acceptable. OTDR test results are to be provided to the customer in digital and hard copy formats.

5. Page 5 of SOW, paragraph 2.4:

a. Please confirm that TWO new cabinets Tripp-Lite SR45UB are needed.

Two additional cabinets are required for future expansion.

b. Will the new outlets be on dedicated circuits? If so, how far is the distribution panel?

The new outlets are to be fed from switches located in room 1220. See OPS Room 1220 Configuration Drawing.

5.Are payment/performance bonds required? NO
6.Site Visit possible?
