1. Question: There is 3 ABI’s list in the PWS and no place in the solicitation to insert pricing for ABI’s.
Is ABI’s to be included in the Base Bid?
1. Answer: The 3 ABIs for Bldg. 323 overhead doors have been removed from this project. There are no ABIs.
2. Question: On sheet A1.1 for building 102, there is an ABI # 2 for a new raised floor. The PWS lists ABI # 2 for a new 12’ x 14’ overhead door for building 323. Which is correct and will the raised floor be a part of this bid?
2. Answer: The raised floor referenced is from a previous project. There are no ABIs and no raised floors in the project. The drawings simply reference the location of overhead doors and the labels associated with each door.
3. Question: Section 5.12.1.2 of the PWS calls for doors to be labeled. Is this just the new doors or will the repaired doors need labels as well?
3. Answer: Labels are required on ALL doors, new and repaired.
4. Question: Section 08330 Overhead Coiling Doors. Paragraphs 2.2 3 a. 1 & 2, 8.a. states powder coat finish, color by government. Are all exposed parts to be powder coated or just the exterior surfaces?
4. Answer: Just exterior surfaces of the door. Appurtenances shall be galvanized.
5. Question: Section 08330 Overhead Coiling Doors. Paragraph 2.2 5 a & 7.a, if these parts are to be powder coated finish they cannot be galvanized. Note: powder coat is superior to Galvanized for durability.
5. Answer: No, these parts are to be galvanized
6. Question: Section 08330 Overhead Coiling Doors. Paragraph 2.2 11 a. pneumatic safety edge is very old technology and cannot be monitored to UL 325 August 30 2010. We suggest either Photo cell NEMA 4X Reflective type or Electric safety edge with wireless connection. The Photo cell would be our recommendation.
6. Answer: Photo cell NEMA 4X Reflective
7. Question: Section 08330 Overhead Coiling Doors. Paragraph 2.2 13 a. & b. requires an interior slide lock or cylinder lock with an interlock. We recommend against this option. The doors will lock themselves through the motor operator. Nobody can lift the doors with the motor operator installed. The locks also create maintenance issue. If the interlock fails (which due to their location at the lock, close to the floor often do) the operator will still be operable and if the lock is engaged can cause extreme damage that cannot be warranted. Again we strongly recommend against this option.
7. Answer: Interior locks will not be required.
8. Question: Section 08330 Overhead Coiling Doors. Paragraph 2.2 15 Insulated vision lights. What is the configuration for these lights? As listed they are either 3” or 10” wide. How many are required and on how many slats? Keep in mind they are about $25.00 each. We normally do not recommend this option due to expense and they offer very little light and vision.
8. Answer: Insulated vision lights are not required.
9. Question: Section 08360 Sectional Overhead doors. Paragraph 2.2 A. 2. State powder coat. This door cannot be powder coated. It can be field painted. Please advise since this portion of the specification cannot be met.
9. Answer: Finish and Color: Two coat baked-on polyester: Interior color, white. Exterior color, brown.
10. Question: Section 08360 Sectional Overhead doors. Paragraph 2.2 7. a. we recommend 3” track on all doors. Small cost, large long term gain.
10. Answer: A 3” track would be acceptable.
11. Question: Section 08360 Sectional Overhead doors. Paragraph 2.2.8. a. 1), 2), 3) has all type of safety edges specified only one can be chosen to work effectively. Please refer to question 3 in Overhead Coiling doors above for our recommendation.
11. Answer: Photo cell NEMA 4X Reflective
12. Question: Section 08360 Sectional Overhead doors. Door #s 262A,B,C,D to be Series 596 sectional doors. Are there others that may not be marked for this type door?
12. Answer: No, these are the only sectional doors to be replaced with a new sectional door. Other existing sectional doors are to be replaced with coiling doors or are to be repaired as noted.
13. Question: Are the project drawings provided (not in Appendix D), provided for door locations reference only, or do all notes apply?
13. Answer: Yes, all project drawings provided are for door location reference only.
14. Question: If all notes apply to question # 1, we will need wall material types, wall material specs., concrete specs., paint specs., just to mention a few.
14. Answer: All project drawings are provided are for door locations only.
