SECTION 15440

PLUMBING FIXTURES

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS

A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary

Conditions and Division 1 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.

1.2 SUMMARY

A. This Section includes plumbing fixtures and trim, faucets, other fittings, and related components.

B. Related Sections: The following Sections contain requirements that relate to this Section:

1. Division 15 Section "Valves" for general-duty valves used as supply stops.

2. Division 15 Section "Plumbing Specialties" for backflow preventers and other specialties not specified in this Section.

1.3 DEFINITIONS

A. Accessible: Plumbing fixture, building, facility, or portion thereof that can be approached, entered, and used by physically handicapped, disabled, and elderly people.

B. Fitting: Device that controls flow of water into or out of plumbing fixture. Fittings specified in this

Section include supplies and stops, faucets and spouts, shower heads and tub spouts, drains and tailpieces, traps and waste pipes. Pipe fittings, tube fittings, and general-duty valves are included where indicated.

1.4 SUBMITTALS

A. General: Submit each item in this Article according to the Conditions of the Contract and

Division 1 Specification Sections.

B. Product Data for each plumbing fixture category and type specified. Include selected fixture, trim, fittings, accessories, appliances, appurtenances, equipment, and supports. Indicate materials and finishes, dimensions, construction details, and flow-control rates.

C. Wiring diagrams from manufacturer for electrically operated units.

D. Maintenance data for plumbing fixtures and components to include in the operation and maintenance manuals specified in Division 1.

1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Source Limitations: Obtain plumbing fixtures, faucets, and other components of each category from one source and by a single manufacturer.

1. Exception: Where fixtures, faucets, or other components are not available from a single manufacturer, obtain similar products from other manufacturers specified for this category.

B. Regulatory Requirements: Comply with requirements of Architectural and Transportation

Barriers Compliance Board's (ATBCB) "Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards (UFAS), 1985- 494-187" regarding plumbing fixtures for physically handicapped people.

C. Energy Policy Act Requirements: Comply with requirements of Public Law 102-486, "Energy

Policy Act," regarding water flow rate and water consumption of plumbing fixtures.

D. Listing and Labeling: Provide electrically operated fixtures and components specified in this

Section that are listed and labeled.

1. The Terms "Listed" and "Labeled": As defined in the National Electrical Code, Article 100.

2. Listing and Labeling Agency Qualifications: A "Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory"

(NRTL) as defined in OSHA Regulation 1910.7.

E. Select combinations of fixtures and trim, faucets, fittings, and other components that are compatible.

F. Product Options: Drawings indicate size, profiles, dimensional requirements, and characteristics of plumbing fixtures and are based on specific types and models indicated. Other manufacturers' fixtures with equal performance characteristics may be considered. Refer to Division 1 Section "Substitutions."

1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Deliver plumbing fixtures in manufacturer's protective packing, crating, and covering.

B. Store plumbing fixtures on elevated platforms in dry location.

1.7 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Field Measurements: Coordinate roughing-in and final fixture locations and verify that plumbing fixtures can be installed to comply with original design and referenced standards.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 PLUMBING FIXTURE STANDARDS

A. Comply with applicable standards below and other requirements specified.

1. Electric Water Coolers: ARI 1010 and UL 399.

2. Emergency Equipment: ANSI Z358.1.

3. Enameled, Cast-Iron Fixtures: ASME A112.19.1M.

4. National Sanitation Foundation Construction: NSF 2.

5. Plastic Mop-Service Basins: ANSI Z124.6.

6. Porcelain-Enameled Fixtures: ASME A112.19.4M.

7. Semivitreous Ceramic Fixtures: ASME A112.19.9M.

8. Stainless-Steel Fixtures Other than Service Sinks: ASME A112.19.3M.

9. Vitreous-China Fixtures: ASME A112.19.2M.

2.2 LAVATORY/SINK FAUCET STANDARDS

A. Comply with ASME A112.18.1M and other requirements specified for lavatory, sink, and similar-type-fixture faucet fittings. Include hot- and cold-water indicators; 2.5-gpm-maximum flow rate;

and polished, chrome-plated finish; except where otherwise indicated. Coordinate faucet inlets with supplies and fixture holes and outlet with spout and fixture receptor.

1. Diverter Valves for Faucets with Hose Spray: ASSE 1025.

2. Hose-Connection Vacuum Breakers: ASSE 1011.

3. Hose-Coupling Threads: ASME B1.20.7.

4. Integral, Atmospheric Vacuum Breakers: ASSE 1001.

5. Pipe Threads: ASME B1.20.1.

6. Sink Spray Hoses: ASTM D 3573.

2.3 MISCELLANEOUS FITTING STANDARDS

A. Comply with ASME A112.18.1M and other requirements specified for fittings, other than faucets.

Include polished, chrome-plated finish, except where otherwise indicated. Coordinate fittings with other components and connectors.

1. Atmospheric Vacuum Breakers: ASSE 1001.

2. Automatic Flow Restrictors: ASSE 1028.

3. Brass and Copper, Supplies and Tubular Brass: ASME A112.18.1M.

4. Fixed Flow Restrictors: ASSE 1034.

5. Manual-Operation Flushometers: ASSE 1037.

6. Plastic Tubular Fittings: ASTM F 409.

2.4 MISCELLANEOUS COMPONENT STANDARDS

A. Comply with applicable standards below and other requirements specified for components for plumbing fixtures, equipment, and appliances.

1. Disposers: ASSE 1008 and UL 430.

2. Floor Drains: ASME A112.21.1M.

3. Grab Bars: ASTM F 446.

4. Hose-Coupling Threads: ASME B1.20.7.

5. Pipe Threads: ASME B1.20.1.

6. Plastic Shower Receptors: ANSI Z124.2 and ANSI Z124.2a.

7. Plastic Toilet Seats: ANSI Z124.5.

8. Supply and Drain Insulation Kits: CABO A117.1.

9. Supports: ASME A112.6.1M.

2.5 FITTINGS

A. Fittings for Plumbing Fixtures: Refer to plumbing fixture schedules at the end of this Section for materials for supplies, supply stops, supply risers, traps, and other fittings.

B. Fittings for Equipment Specified in Other Sections: Fittings include the following:

1. Supply Inlets: Brass pipe or copper tube, size required for final connection.

2. Supply Stops: Chrome-plated brass, angle or straight; compression, loose-key type;

same size as supply inlet and with outlet matching supply riser.

3. Supply Risers: 3/8-inch NPS flexible copper tube with knob end. Use chrome-plated tube for exposed applications.

4. Traps: Cast brass with slip-joint inlet, cleanout pipe nipple to wall, wall flange, escutcheons, and size to match equipment. Use chrome-plated tube for exposed applications.

5. Continuous Waste: Tubular brass, 0.045-inch wall thickness, with slip-joint inlet, and size to match equipment.

6. Indirect Waste: Tubular brass, 0.045-inch wall thickness, and size to match equipment.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Examine roughing-in for potable, hot- and cold-water supply piping systems; soil, waste, and vent piping systems; and supports. Verify that locations and sizes of piping and locations and types of supports match those indicated, before installing and connecting fixtures. Use manufacturer's roughing-in data when roughing-in data are not indicated.

B. Examine walls, floors, and cabinets for suitable conditions where fixtures are to be installed.

C. Do not proceed until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.2 APPLICATIONS

A. Include supports for plumbing fixtures according to the following:

1. Carriers: For wall-hanging water closets and fixtures supported from wall construction.

2. Chair Carriers: For wall-hanging urinals, lavatories, sinks, drinking fountains, and electric water coolers.

3. Heavy-Duty Chair Carriers: For accessible urinals, lavatories, and other fixtures where indicated.

4. Reinforcement: For floor-mounted lavatories and sinks that require securing to wall and recessed, box-mounted, electric water coolers.

B. Include fitting insulation kits for accessible fixtures according to the following:

1. Lavatories: Cover hot- and cold-water supplies, stops and handles, drain, trap, and waste to wall.

2. Sinks: Cover hot- and cold-water supplies, stops and handles, drain, trap, and waste to wall.

3. Sinks: Cover hot-water supply, stop and handle, drain, trap, and waste to wall.

4. Fixtures with Offset Drain: Cover hot- and cold-water supplies, offset drain, trap, and waste to wall.

5. Other Fixtures: Cover exposed fittings below fixture.

3.3 PLUMBING FIXTURE INSTALLATION

A. Assemble plumbing fixtures and trim, fittings, faucets, and other components according to manufacturers' written instructions.

B. Install fixtures level and plumb according to manufacturers' written instructions, roughing-in drawings, and referenced standards.

C. Install wall-hanging, back-outlet water closets with support manufacturer's tiling frame or setting gage.

D. Install toilet seats on water closets.

E. Install wall-hanging, back-outlet urinals with gasket seals.

F. Install flushometer valves for accessible water closets and urinals with handle mounted on wide side of compartment. Install other actuators in locations that are easy for handicapped people to reach.

G. Fasten wall-hanging plumbing fixtures securely to supports attached to building substrate when supports are specified, and to building wall construction where no support is indicated.

H. Fasten floor-mounted fixtures to substrate. Fasten fixtures having holes for securing fixture to wall construction, to reinforcement built into walls.

I. Fasten recessed, wall-mounted fittings to reinforcement built into walls.

J. Fasten wall-mounted fittings to reinforcement built into walls.

K. Fasten counter-mounting plumbing fixtures to casework.

L. Secure supplies to supports or substrate within pipe space behind fixture.

M. Set mop basins in leveling bed of cement grout.

N. Install individual stop valve in each water supply to fixture. Use gate or globe valve where specific stop valve is not specified.

1. Exception: Omit stop valves on supplies to emergency equipment, except when permitted by authorities having jurisdiction. When permitted, install valve chained and locked in OPEN position.

O. Install water-supply stop valves in accessible locations.

P. Install faucet, flow-control fittings with specified flow rates and patterns in faucet spouts when faucets are not available with required rates and patterns. Include adapters when required.

Q. Install traps on fixture outlets. Omit traps on fixtures having integral traps. Omit traps on indirect wastes, except where otherwise indicated.

R. Install disposers in sink outlets as indicated.

S. Install escutcheons at wall, floor, and ceiling penetrations in exposed, finished locations and within cabinets and millwork. Use deep-pattern escutcheons where required to conceal protruding pipe fittings.

T. Seal joints between fixtures and walls, floors, and counters using sanitary-type, 1-part, mildew-resistant, silicone sealant according to sealing requirements specified in Division 7 Section "Joint Sealants." Match sealant color to fixture color.

3.4 CONNECTIONS

A. Piping installation requirements are specified in other Division 15 Sections. Drawings indicate general arrangement of piping, fittings, and specialties. The following are specific connection requirements:

1. Install piping connections between plumbing fixtures and piping systems and plumbing equipment specified in other Division 15 Sections.

B. Supply and Waste Connections to Plumbing Fixtures: Refer to plumbing fixture schedules at the end of this Section for fitting sizes and connection requirements for each plumbing fixture.

C. Supply and Waste Connections to Equipment Specified in Other Sections: Connect equipment with supply inlets, supply stops, supply risers, and traps specified in this Section. Use fitting sizes required to match connected equipment. Connect fittings to plumbing piping.

D. Ground equipment.

1. Tighten electrical connectors and terminals according to manufacturer's published torque-tightening values. Where manufacturer's torque values are not indicated, use those specified in UL 486A and UL 486B.

E. Arrange for electric-power connections to fixtures and devices that require power. Electric power is specified in Division 16 Sections.

3.5 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

A. Verify that installed fixtures are categories and types specified for locations where installed.

B. Check that fixtures are complete with trim, faucets, fittings, and other specified components.

C. Inspect installed fixtures for damage. Replace damaged fixtures and components.

D. Test installed fixtures after water systems are pressurized and demonstrate proper operation.

Replace malfunctioning fixtures and components, then retest. Repeat procedure until units operate properly.

3.6 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING

A. Operate and adjust faucets and controls. Replace damaged and malfunctioning fixtures, fittings, and controls.

B. Operate and adjust disposers and controls. Replace damaged and malfunctioning units and controls.

C. Adjust water pressure at electric water coolers, faucets, shower valves, and flushometer valves having controls, to produce proper flow and stream.

D. Replace washers and seals of leaking and dripping faucets and stops.

E. Clean fixtures, faucets, and other fittings with manufacturers' recommended cleaning methods and materials. Include the following:

1. Remove faucet spouts and strainers, remove sediment and debris, and reinstall strainers and spouts.

2. Remove sediment and debris from drains.

3.7 PROTECTION

A. Provide protective covering for installed fixtures and fittings.

B. Do not allow use of fixtures for temporary facilities, except when approved in writing by

Government.

3.8 PLUMBING FIXTURE SCHEDULE

A. WC-1 Water Closet - General Use - Wall Hung - Flush Valve

American-Standard 2257.103 “AFWALL” water saver, siphon jet action water closet, elongated bowl, white vitreous china, wall hung, 1-1/2” inlet top spud. Set rim 15” above floor. 1.6 gallons per flush. See architectural drawings for mounting height.

Sloan 111-3-YB-YC “Royal” flush valve with quiet action, 1” IPS screwdriver stop and vacuum breaker.

Olsonite 95-SS-CC white open front seat less cover with self-sustaining hinge and check hinge.

Adjustable carrier fitting as required.

Similar fixtures by Kohler or Eljer will be acceptable.

B. WC-2 Water Closet - Wheelchair use - Wall Hung - Flush Valve

American-Standard 2257.103 “AFWALL” water saver siphon jet action water closet, elongated bowl, white vitreous china, wall hung, 1-1/2” inlet top spud. 1.6 gallons per flush. See architectural drawings for mounting height.

Sloan 111-3-YB-YC “Royal” flush valve with quiet action, 1” IPS screwdriver stop and vacuum breaker.

Olsonite 95-SS-CC white open front seat less cover with self-sustaining hinge and check hinge.

C. UR-1 Urinal - General Use - Wall Hung - flush Valve (Siphon Jet)

American-Standard 6541.132 “ALLBROOK” water saver siphon jet urinal, white vitreous china, 3/4” inlet top spud, flushing rim, wall hanger. Flushes on 1.0 gallon. See architectural drawings for mounting height.

Sloan 186-1.0-YB-YC “Royal” flush valve, 3/4” IPS screwdrive bak-chek angle stop, vacuum breaker.

D. UR-2 Urinal - Wheelchair Use - Wall Hung - Flush Valve (Siphon Jet)

American-Standard 6541.132 “ALLBROOK” water saver siphon jet urinal, white vitreous china, 3/4” inlet top spud, flushing rim, wall hanger. Flushes on 1.0 gallons. See architectural drawings for mounting height.

Sloan 186-1.0-YB-YC “Royal” flush valve, 3/4” IPS screwdrive bak-chek angle stop, vacuum breaker.

E. LAV-1 Lavatory - General Use - Countertop - Self-Rimming

American-Standard 0476.028 “AQUALYN” 20” x 17”.

American Standard faucet model number S402.172H.002. Quarter turn washerless ceramic disc valve cartridges. All brass drain body with 1 ¼” tailpiece 2.2 qpm max. flow, and wrist blade handles.

Pair of 3/8” loose key lock shield angle valves with loose key handle, slow-compression unit, 3/8” IPS female inlet, 12” long ½” O.D. flexible riser and wall flange. Polished chromium plated.

1-1/4” adjustable cast brass P-trap with cast set screw escutcheon, chromium plated.

F. LAV-2 Lavatory - General Use - Wall Hung

American-Standard 0355.012 “LUCERNE” white vitreous china lavatory, front overflow, self-draining deck area with contoured back and side splash shields, for 8” centers. Size:

20-1/2” x 18-1/4”.

American Standard faucet model number S402.172H.002. Quarter turn washerless ceramic disc valve cartridges. All brass drain body with 1 ¼” tailpiece 2.2 qpm max. flow, and wrist blade handles.

Pair of 3/8” loose key lock shield angle valves with loose key handle, slow-compression unit, 3/8” IPS female inlet, 12” long ½” O.D. flexible riser and wall flange. Polished chromium plated.

1-1/4” adjustable cast brass P-trap with cast set screw escutcheon, chromium plated.

G. LAV-3 Lavatory Wheelchair Use - Wall Hung

American-Standard 0915.073 “ROXALYN” wall hung lavatory, faucet holes 4” centers, white vitreous china, front overflow, concealed arm support, size: 20” x 18”. See architectural drawings for mounting height.

American Standard faucet model number S402.172H.002. Quarter turn washerless ceramic disc valve cartridges. All brass drain body with 1 ¼” tailpiece 2.2 qpm max. flow, and wrist blade handles.

American-Standard 7723.018 grid drain for wheelchair lavatory, 4-1/2” offset, 1-1/4” tailpiece, chrome plated.

Pair of 3/8” loose key lock shield angle valves with loose key handles slow-compression unit, 3/8” IPS female inlet, 12” long O.D. flexible riser and wall flange. Polished chromium plated.

1-1/4” adjustable cast brass P-trap with cast set screw escutcheon, chromium plated.

Install a Trubro No. 102W insulating kit with No. 105 offset waste kit.

H. MSB-1 Mop Service Basin - Molded Stone

Fiat Products Model MSB-2424, or approved equal, one-piece precast molded-stone mop service basin, 10” high outside. Drain body shall be stainless steel 302, factory installed, and shall provide for a lead caulk connection to a 3” pipe. Provide and install Fiat E-77- AA vinyl bumperguards on all exposed sides. Adjacent to walls shall be caulked with Dow Corning 780 white silicon sealant, or approved equal. Size: 24” x 24” x 10”.

American Standard 8344.112.002 service sink faucet with elevated vacuum breaker, wall spout and 4 ft. of hose with plain outlet. Polished chromium plated.

I. SK-1 Countertop Sink-Single Compartment - Lever Handle

Elkay “LUSTERTONE” LR-2521 single compartment sink seamlessly drawn of 18 gauge, Type 302 (18-8) nickel bearing stainless steel, 1-3/4” radius covered corners, self rim, satin finish, underside fully undercoated. Drain opening 3-1/2”. Four faucet holes as required for trim.

American Standard 4175.201.002 single lever type, 8" centers, swing spout, vandal resistant 2.2 gpm aerator, 1/2" I.P.S. male threaded inlets, chrome plated.

Elkay LK-35 Duo strainer, stainless body, conical stainless strainer with neoprene stopper and CP Brass 1-1/2” O.D. tailpiece.

Pair of ½” loose key lock shield angle valves with loose key handle, slow-compression unit, ½” IPS female inlet, ½” O.D. flexible riser and wall flange. Polished chromium plated.

1-1/2” adjustable cast brass P-trap with cast set screw escutcheon, chromium plated.

Similar sinks by Just will be acceptable.

Disposers (see drawings for locations): In-Sink-Erator Div.; Emerson Electric Co.:

Continuous-feed-type food waste disposer conforming to UL 420, ½-horsepower motor, 15440-10

1725 rpm, overload protection, and wall-switch operated; corrosion-resistant construction, with quick-mounting feature, stainless steel sink flange, cushioned suspension, and stainless steel grinding chamber; jam-resistant cutting/shredding mechanism with swivel-mounted impellers on turntable, cast tool steel grinding ring, and cutlery steel undercutter blade; insulated housing for grinding chamber; and anti-splash guard and combination cover/stopper.

Similar disposers by Jenn-Air Co. or KitchenAid, Inc. will be acceptable.

J. SK-2 Stainless Steel Scrub Sink – Foot Operated

Elkay EWS-2520-F-C 25″x19½″ #14 gauge, type 304 (18-8) stainless steel scrub sink with 1-3/4″ radius vertical and horizontal coved corners. Full-length backsplash, shall be hand-blended to auniform lustrous satis finish, with underside undercoated. Furnish with wall hanger and stainless steel support brackets.

Provide with supplied LK-398-C wall hung double foot pedal valve with ½” I.P.S. inlets and outlets, LK-395 C.P. 9” high goosenuck spout with vandal proof anti-hose aerator and LK- 18-B stainless steel grid drain fitting with 1 ½” OD tailpiece.

Pair of ½” loose key lock shield angle valves with loose key handle, slow-compression unit, ½” IPS female inlet, ½” O.D. flexible riser and wall flange. Polished chromium plated.

1-1/2” adjustable cast brass P-trap with cast set screw escutcheon, chromium plated.

K. SK-3 Double Compartment Stainless Steel Wash Sink

Elkay SS-8248 51″ x 27″ type 304 stainless steel wash sink. 18″ backsplash and 14″ compartment depth, furnish with wall hanger and stainless steel support bracket.

Elkay LK-18 chrome plated stamped brass 3″ girded waste fitting with perforated strainer.

Elkay LK-393 9″ gooseneck spout faucet, 4″ wrist blade handles and vandal-proof anti-hose aerator.

Pair of ½” loose key lock shield angle valves with loose key handle, slow-compression unit, ½” IPS female inlet, ½” O.D. flexible riser and wall flange. Polished chromium plated.

1-1/2” adjustable cast brass P-trap with cast set screw escutcheon, chromium plated.

L. WHD-1 shall be Wade W-8625, ¾” non-freeze wall hydrant with vandal proof integral vacuum breaker-backflow preventer, straight inlet connection, brass casing and brass box with chrome plated finish.

Similar hydrants by J.R., Smith or Zurn will be acceptable.

M. HB-1 shall be Chicago Faucet No. 998, or approved equal, outside sill faucet with vacuum breaker, ¾” hose thread outlet, No. 633 four-arm handle, and ¾” female IP inlet, rough chromium finish.

N. EWC-1 Electric Water Cooler - Split Level - Semi-Recessed

Elkay Model No. EBFALT-8-5, 8.0 gallon per hour capacity. All stainless steel. Lead free brass internal parts. Abrasion resistant 410 watts, 120 volts, 1/5 h.p. compressor. Supply with LKARP-188 for ADA compliancy.

O. EWC-2 Electric Water Cooler - Single Level - Semi-Recessed

Elkay Model No. EBFSA-8-5, 8.0 gallon per hour capacity. All stainless steel. Lead free brass internal parts. Abrasion resistant 410 watts, 120 volts, 1/5 h.p. compressor.

P. EWS-1 Emergency Shower/Eye Wash Unit

Bradley Model No. S19-310H, plastic showerhead and bowl, provide with Bradley Model S19-2100 Emergency fixture thermaostatic mixing valve.

Q. SH-1 Shower

Provide Bradley Model No. 1C-EF-SF-IS pressure balance mixing valve, with diverter value, and deluxe showerhead with ball joint.
