This is commonly referred to as “Oil immersed” or as NEMA states “Type 8 enclosures are designed to prevent combustion through the use of oil-immersed equipment.” This is in error as most of all manufacturers cannot meet or provide this rating. This should have been a combo type rating requirement to cover a Class 1 Division 1 outside- rated enclosure or a rating of NEMA 3R, 7. Please confirm the correct specification.
Refer to amended specification section 26 20 00, para 2.14.
NEMA 8 will be changed to NEMA 3R, 7.
