The Contractor must physically verify underground utility locations by hand digging using wood or fiberglass handled tools when any adjacent construction work is expected to come within three feet of the underground system. Digging within 0.61 m (2 feet) of a known utility must not be performed by means of mechanical equipment; hand digging shall be used. If construction is parallel to an existing utility the utility shall be exposed by hand digging.

Cables that will be cut must be positively identified and de-energized prior to performing each cut.

Positive cable identification must be made prior to submitting any outage request for electrical systems. Arrangements are to be coordinated with the Contracting Officer and Station Utilities for identification. The Contracting Officer will not accept an outage request until the Contractor satisfactorily documents that the circuits have been clearly identified.

Q1.4. Demolition The demolition of the existing White Bridge Q1 is an optional item. See the section “Options”.

Q2. Repair Yellow Road and Bridge

Upgrade the existing tank road "Yellow Road," from points Q to R including drainage elements, traffic signs, conduits, culverts, etc.

Figure 4: Existing bridge at point Q and dirt road

The existing concrete road is in poor condition. The surface is not even and cracked. The sub-base is unstable, furrowed and full of potholes. Ruts dominate the overall impression.

Figure 5: Existing Bridge and road at point Q

The pavement shall be designed using PCASE. PCASE is mandatory for the design of roads and parking areas trafficked by special military vehicles and for all vehicle types outside of the United States and its territories and possessions.

PCASE is a computer program developed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), is available for use by the public. PCASE can be used to determine pavement thickness and compaction requirements. PCASE may be obtained electronically from the following: https://transportation.wes.army.mil/pcase or http://www.pcase.com

The design vehicle is the M1A2 SEP Abrams tank. Assume 36,000 passes per lifespan.

The design load is tracked MLC 100 according to STANAG 2021 Military Load Classification of Bridges. Single lane traffic.

Length of the road Q-R Approx. 255 m Width of the road min. 6.10 m Thickness of the road structure min. 0.76 m

Base the design of the road upgrade upon a standard cross-section with a roadway width of 6.10 m.

After removing the cracked concrete slabs at a length of approx. 255 m and an average width of 5 m, the new gravel road shall be built-up on the existing route. Optimize cut and fill balance. Provide at least (from top to bottom):

Gravel bettered with sand-grit 16 cm Gravel 30 cm Subbase 30 cm Geotextile > 300 g/m2 Subgrade

Figure 6: Conceptual section of the Yellow Road - for reference only

Due to the high built-up of the road, excavation work for trenches is minor. Stormwater discharged in the road trenches shall be conducted into trenches and/or into the open terrain, subject to applicable site conditions.

Install pipe culverts as required. Inlets and outlets shall be secured against erosion with armor stones.

Connect and adapt the new road to the existing roads at points Q and R.
