Question and Answer
FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY
1. Question: It is our intent to remove the entire section of existing wall at the new panel locations and frame a new wall, set the panels in the new wall and eliminate the patching. This will allow for a vertical joint at each end with one continuous wall surface. Will the VA allow the existing Glazed block or skim coated CMU to be replaced by gypsum wall board? Assuming finishes to match existing or as clarified in RFI below.
Answer: The construction method shall limit the quantity of glazed block removed to that required for the installation of the electrical panels, wireway and conduit. CMU block may be removed above the electrical panels to the top of the existing wall. Wall infill at these locations may utilize metal framing and gypsum wallboard plus a finish surface to match existing adjacent surfaces. The contractor may reconfigure the locations of the conduits, placing pairs of them between pairs of panels, to limit the quantity of floor to ceiling cut and patch locations.
2. Question: There are pull stations on every floor that are not shown on the drawings that fall within our Temp. Partition. Will the contractor be required to relocate the pull station to the surface of the Temp. Partition?
Answer: The pull stations are to remain functional and accessible thought construction.
3. Question: There are other wall mounted devices, Key pads, Trane sensors, security, etc….what is the contractor’s responsibility for these devices?
Answer: The functionality of these devices is to be maintained. Coordinate the requirements of each device with the COR.
4. Question: On several floors there is existing wall covering. What is the expectation on trying to patch and match the existing? Is the contractor required to strip the existing wall covering and install new?
Answer: Match the existing wall finishes and coverings as indicated.
5. Question: Does the VA have the specifications on the various wall coverings we are to try to match?
Answer: Specifications for wall coverings are not available.
6. Question: In a previous RFI we were told to consult with the VA for use of the Elevator. Will the contractor be able to stage off the top of the elevator?
Answer: The contractor will not be able to stage off of the top of the Elevator.
7. Question: What is the spec on the stone on the first floor? Where was the stone sourced form?
And it is still readily available?
Answer: The source of the stone is not available. The contract may remove and reinstall the stone as required.
8. Question: There are two different types of stone on the first floor, please confirm the specification for each.
Answer: The source and specification of the stone is not available.
9. Question: Key Note 1 on A-100 Phase 3 drawings says to caulk all existing penetrations, existing penetrations are not shown on the drawings. How are we to ascertain an accurate quantity?
Answer: The quantity of penetrations is dependent on the final configuration implemented by the contractor.
10. Question: Key Note 2 Drawing E-110 Phase 3 says to provide new fire rated panels at new and existing Pull boxes. Existing pull boxes are not shown. How many fire rated access panels is the GC to carry?
Answer: At minimum, the access panels are to be located at each platform provided as indicated by detail 2 on drawing A-701 and as required for the installation of the electrical systems. Work platforms are to remain for use by owner.
11. Question: The crawl space area currently locked down for potential asbestos, will that be cleared prior to the work starting in that space?
Answers:
1. Personnel shall assume the crawlspace is asbestos contaminated and proceed under OHSA direction for working in asbestos contaminated areas.
2. Personnel shall be medically cleared and trained to use ½ face respirators (w/ HEPA cartridge) all work to be performed wearing the respirator.
3. Tyvek, booties and gloves shall be worn.
4. Workers shall utilize a remote or (dry) decon. Meaning, that upon entry personnel would wear two (2) Tyveks and upon exit remove outer dirty Tyvek, gloves & booties (dispose of as asbestos-contaminated waste). Worker then proceeds to nearest bathroom to clean up.
5. Personnel entering the restricted space shall comply with OHSA requirement for air monitoring with personal air pumps. Results of air monitoring to be provided to the VA.
6. A polyurethane vapor barrier shall be installed to isolate the area were the work is to take place.
